How do you delete friends in facebook?

Updated on October 6, 2011

If you're a facebook addict like many people today, chances are you have a lot of friends. And statistically speaking, over 20% of the average facebook user's friends are people they've never met face to face.

So why is that? Well it can vary. That 20% might consist of people you've met through a friend, someone you've met online or someone you've added just to get ahead in a facebook application.

Whatever the reason, the origin of your facebook friends can vary widely - from school friends to colleagues, relatives and random acquaintance.

Sometimes, however, you no longer want a friend on your facebook friend list. Whether you had a falling out, or just no longer talk to them, you want them to no longer see your updates.

Read on to find out how to delete a friend on facebook.

Delete your Facebook Friends

  1. Visit the profile page of the friend you want to delete.
  2. Scroll down, watching the section of items below their profile picture on the left.
  3. Click the blue hyperlink that says 'Remove from friends.'

Is there any other way?

There were numerous other ways to remove friends from your contact list.

However, with recent facebook changes, the 'remove friend' link has been removed from your friend group lists as well as your friend lists.

Basically, the only way to delete and permanently remove a friend from your list is to visit their profile page.
