I like it on............?

Every October, millions of woman join together to raise awareness for breast cancer. Last October woman everywhere were posting a colour as their Facebook status, Male friends kept commenting "what is this colour for?" "why do i keep seeing colours on my friends status?"

This was a breast cancer awareness campaign, woman were posting the colour of the bra that they were wearing at the time. This month however, you have probably seen status updates that read 'I like it on the kitchen table' or 'I like it on the sofa' and even 'I like it on my desk,'

These status reports are puzzling men all over, many of who, believe they are refering to something sexual. However, their is nothing sexual about theses status updates, although one could see why men would think that, it is in fact a breast cancer awareness campaign. Woman receive the following message in their dms.

"So you guys remember the game last year about what color bra you were wearing at the moment? For those of you who didn't participate in the game, what happened was that females posted the colour of the bra that they were wearing at that moment in their status on Facebook. Facebook statuses were full of colors and it had males everywhere wondering why.

The purpose was to increase awareness of October Breast Cancer Awareness month. It was a tremendous success and we had men wondering for days what was with the colors and it made it to the news. This year's game has to do with your handbag/purse,we want to know where you put your handbag the moment you get home for example "I like it on the couch", "I like it on the kitchen counter", "I like it on the dresser" well u get the idea. Just put your answer as your status with nothing more than that and cut n paste this message and forward to all your FB female friends to their inbox. The bra game made it to the news. Let's see how powerful we women really are!!

And so woman are posting where they keep their bag, and whether you find this bag game stupid or fun, it has done what it set out to do, as everyone is talking about it and therefore raising awareness for breast cancer.

Do you think the breast cancer awareness status games are a good idea?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month worldwide.

It is a month where people come together to raise vital awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, promote screening and raise much needed funds for research into the disease. It is also a way of showing support to the millions of people affected by breast cancer.

In 1992, Alexandra Penney, editor-in-chief for SELF magazine, and Evelyn Lauder, Vice president of Estee Lauder and a breast cancer survivor herself, partnered together to distribute pink ribbons after the magazines second breast cancer awareness month issue. Pink Ribbons have been the recognised symbol for breast cancer awareness ever since.

Breast cancer is much more common in women but it can also affect Men, which is why October 17th - 23rd is Men's breast cancer awareness week.

How to Check Your Breasts at Home?

It is so important to check your breasts regularly at home, so that you can spot changes, and get seen by a doctor as soon as possible.

I have found this useful resource for how to check them properly on breastcancer.org, which I have linked below.

What are the symptoms of Breast Cancer?

  • A lump, or swelling in your breast, chest or armpit.
  • A change in size or shape of one or both breasts
  • A change in the skin of your breast, such as dimpling (may look like orange peel) or redness - This maybe harder to see on black or brown skin.
  • Nipple discharge (If you are not pregnant or breast feeding), which may have blood in it.
  • A change in the size or shape of your nipple, such as it turning inwards or you can see a rash on it (may look like eczema).
  • Pain in your breast or armpit that doesn't go away - Breast pain that comes and goes is usually not a symptom of breast cancer.

It is always important to have any concerns checked by your GP.
