Im Feeling Lucky Google Homepage Search

Updated on February 4, 2011

There is actually only about one percent of users that take advantage of the "I'm Feeling Lucky" Google homepage search button. For those who do not know what this button does or have never used it, this button will take the users directly to the top search result for their search term.

Sounds pretty cool right? It can be, it's like opening the door without knowing whats behind it. Well for Google that door is actually pretty costly, are you ready??? This button costs Google approximately $110 million a year in revenue from the search ads that do not get shown. Wouldn't you just like to have $110 million to give up?

So Why Does Google Keep this Costly Button?

Millions of people use Google search everyday. You might be surprised to learn how many users actually click straight to the "I'm Feeling Lucky" on the Google Homepage search and how much it costs Google when they do.

It has been rumored that the founders of Google just like to have a little fun and to do things that are not just about making money. Sounds like a pretty good philosophy, trying to show they are not out of touch with their customers and that without them Google might not be where it is today.

So if you want to take a chance and open that closed door without knowing whats behind it, go ahead and hit "I'm Feeling Lucky." You might just be surprised that they knew exactly what you were looking for and save you the endless hours of searching. If you aren't brave enough just yet to take the plunge, you can take a look at some of the videos I have included below. They may answer any questions you have.

There are other really cool Google Search pages that you might also want to look at. Who knows maybe one fits your personality better than the classic Google search homepage. Here is an example of a few of them if you want to have some fun, Google Loco, Google 133t, and Google Gothic.

Regardless of how you conduct your Google searches, the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button has become part of the Google Search brand and has sealed its place there for all to use. So when you feel like living on the wild side, take your chances and who knows maybe you will get lucky!
