My App Won't Install on My LG Rumor Touch and it says Memory Card Error-How to Fix the Failed JAD File

Updated on August 26, 2011

The Problem

In short: MY APP WON'T INSTALL

You may be one who has received an error message saying that "it [the app] cannot install from memory card".

Or

You may be one whose phone abruptly restarted after the "downloading" and "saving" phase of installation.

The goal of this hub is to help you fix this problem when it is the result of a JAD file problem. Its easy! I promise!

Assumptions

My Testers

Bad JAD Example

Bad JAD Script

To make sure that this was truely a "Bad JAD" I loaded it into the phone.

It caused my phone to abruptly restart after "downloading"/"saving".

The app had not really installed, as I noted by visiting the APPLICATIONS menu.

We must fix the BAD JAD!

Good JAD

Good JAD Script

*Don't Forget to SAVE Your Changes to the JAD File"

Of course, I tested this one too.

It worked exactly like it was supposed to.

I have tested over 100 apps in the last few days, and I can attest that many many apps that would not install with a BAD JAD did install with my fixed GOOD JAD.

is this a bad JAD? can you fix it for me? i back spaced it i think.....

      JADMaker for Nokia Java Games

      Version 1.21

      http://www.geocities.com/mangokun/

      for Windows 98/2000/ME/XP

      - requires .NET Framework 2.0 or higher version runtime installed http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa... (22 MB)

      for Windows Vista

      - .NET Framework 3.0 is included with Vista

!!! You MUST put the files below together in the same folder.

      JADMaker.exe

      JADMaker.exe.config

      JADMaker.txt

      Ionic.Utils.Zip.dll

      What

JADMaker creates a JAD file for your .JAR Java Games, so that you can install them to your mobile phone.

      Features:

      - simple DRAG and DROP operations!

      - allows batch processing of JAR files

      - enabling Explorer Context-Menu extension allows you to generate a JAD file quickly

      - keep the program 'Always on Top' of all other windows (Useful)

      - keep your program settings (in Windows Registry)

      Why

Interest in Java Games for Nokia mobile phones.

Some of the Java Games for Nokia mobile phones does not comes with a .jad file, so I searched the net for a JAD generator.

Came across a lousy program called 'JADgen', so I decided to make one that is better then it.

      How to use this program?

      There are 3 ways.

      1) Run JADMaker. Drag and drop a JAR file onto the window. JAD generated. That's it!

      2) Drag and drop a JAR file onto the JADMaker.exe icon in a Windows Explorer window.

This means you can also create a desktop shortcut to JADMaker.exe, and then drop JAR file(s) onto the shortcut.

      3) Once the "Make JAD" Explorer Context-Menu extension is enabled (by checking it in the program),

you can right click on any JAR file(s) for a quick "Make JAD".

Remember that you can process multiple JAR files at one time (=batch procesing).

Just select multiple files, and use any of the ways above (this is really the icing on the cake!).

With so many ways to get your JAD file, you are spoilt for choice!!!

      Installation

No special installation is required on Windows.

JADMaker can be put in any folder (together with other required files).

You may make a shortcut to it on your Desktop.

      Troubleshooting

.NET Framework 2.0 or higher version runtime is required in your system

The 2.0 Redistributable Package can be downloaded for free from

      http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...

      (22 MB)

      * When I try to run JADMaker, it dies with the following error:

      META-INF/MANIFEST.MF not found in ...

My program checks for "META-INF/MANIFEST.MF" in your .JAR file.

Pls check manually that you have a valid .JAR file.

      Version History

      1.21 (Feb 03, 2009) (.NET 2.0)

      - Removed a bug related to extracting META-INF/MANIFEST.MF

      1.20 (Oct 05, 2008) (.NET 2.0)

      - Ported to VB.NET based on the source code of JADMaker 1.15.

      - Removed a bug related to Explorer Context-Menu extension

      - Most bugs should be solved as a benefit of the porting

      - Additionally works in Windows Vista

      1.15 (Jan 13, 2005) (VB6)

      - Minor code changes to better handle error that arises with invalid .JAR files

      1.1 (Sep 12, 2003) (VB6)

      - Removed a serious bug in the program, that will cause extra lines in the JAD file

      Disclaimer

This program is free. You may distribute it, but you may not charge money for it.

@Jarreth, in my experience, if an app does not work after following install instructions and after trying to fix the JAD file, then usually, the app just plain will not work.

I'm not sure what you meant by support? - if there is true "support" staff for the app, then contact them maybe???

@ danatheteacher what should i do if it doesnt work and the file was designed by support directly for ln 510?

@Jarreth I will be creating a hub explaining in detail how to edit the Jads and Manifest files and how to install on phone, etc. But if your phone firmware is v8 then it's a no go. Gotta find a work around for v8. You can check what version by going to "Main Menu", "Settings", "Phone Info", "Version"

fyi i have made the same comment under NocturnLunacy in other hub comments.

@danatheteacher its awesome you created this hub. i got a rumor touch thru vm cuz i thought it was a smart phone which it was intended to be until virgin and sprint got ahold of em and made em retarded lol.

Anyway pointing out how the lines tend to become split and read as separate lines. but also the manifest and midlet versions need to be the same on both the jad and manifest files. Also the cldc needs to be 1.0 or 1.1 and the midlet profile needs to be 2.0 and the size needs to be 328x240. but i usually just delete the line for the size and that makes it auto instead of absolute. or just put MIDlet-Orientation=landscape. but all changes need to be changed in both the jad and manifest files.

@anna, yes, the other reason is that it just won't work. You can always try and remake the JAD file from the JAR using JADMaker, but if that too doesn't work, then there is something wrong with the app. Find another version or the same version on a different site. This is often what I do as a solution.

I tried to install several .jad files on my phone, but the error message "Installation from memory card to phone" always comes up. I tried editing the files in WordPad, but they were not bad JAD files. Is there any other reason for the error message?

@Bob, no, you've hit on the other major problem, network connections. Apps have to want to connect, it seems, as http and through port 80 only. Not everything is set like that and/or can be. I have not got Snaptu to work nor have I found anyone who has yet.
