It's still alive and kicking specially tons of internet marketers found it as a vehicle to launch their promotions.

Twitter is about networking without too many details. Its like quick, reach to a number of people and a simple enough way of making announcements, promotions, product information and more through a network.
It is as good a social marketing tool as face book provided you understand how to use it right.

The simplicity of twitter is behind it's appeal and popularity. It also allows regular people to connect with their favorite celebrities. It also allows businesses to connect with a huge amount of people in an instant. Those factors have not changed and so neither has the usefulness of twitter.

It's easier to connect with a larger group of individuals on twitter than on facebook, in my opinion. There is however sort of an art to using it correctly. No one really wants to know what color your socks are. You have to create engaging and interesting tweets to gain followers. Followers are what make twitter. What does it matter if you say the coolest things or share the best information, if no one sees it?

Twitter is bottled water and cell phone texting. I never saw it coming. How could anyone make money selling water while texting on a device designed primarily for ridiculously high cost voice communication? Similarly, how could a thing that only lets you put in 140 characters max be of use to ANYONE?? Jeez.
