Here's what I have stumbled upon as of late that has gained me some Twitter followers with little effort.

First every time I log on to Twitter I follow every choice they give me. There's always 2 right on the screen below your profile image and then press the "more" tab and follow any that are there no matter who they are.

Then go back to the home page and any of the regular tweet messages you see reply to and any business, sports or group related posts you see Re Tweet all of those.

It takes about 10 minutes and each day I have gained 5-19 followers and have even received a tiny smidge of traffic from there.

The same way I answered in Mahalo.com /answers/how-can-you-become-famous-on-twitter.

This question is as similiar to "Why is Ashton Kutcher so famous in Twitter?"

    First, be famous.
Second, be really really twitting - personal stuff, share cool links, retweet, ask your fans questions and interact.
    Thirdly, cross-tweet.

"Kutcher didn’t stop at Twitter though. He dragged his campaign onto the likes of YouTube, Ustream Tv, MySpace and Facebook. (Over 1.2 million fans follow Kutcher on Facebook alone.)"

Eventually, you'll pull followers when they find you have something interesting to share.

    Tweet meaningfully within your expertise.
Search for similar interest tweets, follow them.
    Get yourself included in 'Lists'.
You may have slow start but will certainly have loyal followers.

There's a variety of great methods.  The best and most reliable is to interact with others.

I wrote a Hub on the different ways to increase the amount of Twitter followers, including links to various tools and sites.

connect your friends from other social media sites. Maybe you can inform them about your account on twitter. I also suggest that you should tweet informative, and interesting things. Participate, and do a teasing moves to attract users. There are many ways, try searching on them more deeply on the web. Or you can also buy them. haha funny ^_^
