There are so many to choose from. Todays technology and digital media have revolutionised picture taking. Making it so easy to take beautiful stunning pictures with these compact cameras that are full of all wonderful kinds of technology that helps you take the perfect picture.

Point and shoot camera shown in picture is the Nikon COOLPIX S4100 14 MP Digital Camera (Silver) One of my favourites for taking on holiday for those tourist snap shots, stunning clarity in photos.

My top Pick for point and Shoot camera - ...holy moley! Check out these features

....okay this point and shoot camera is nearly Human

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Still Camera with 16x Optical Zoom G Lens, 3D Sweep Panorama and Full HD 1080/60p Video
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Still Camera with 16x Optical Zoom G Lens, 3D Sweep Panorama and Full HD 1080/60p Video

My favourite Features include:

Background Defocus

DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now our point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit. The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocused background keeping the subject crisp and clear.

Smile Shutter technology

Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity

Basic features to look for in a Point and shoot Camera

...how do you choose the right point and shoot camera

Resolution- (MP) Mega pixels pictures are made up of tiny little dots, the higher the Mega Pixels the more detail the camera will capture.

Anti-Blur - most cameras ow have inbuilt anti blur feature, eliminates shaky hand effect on pictures

Face Detection - this feature picks out faces and focuses on them

wide angle - this allows you to fit more in the picture without having to stand a long way back

Movie Capture - most compact point and shoots offer this added feature, just remember it takes up a lot of room on your memory card

continuous shooting mode - this is great for action shots, and a nice added feature to the point and shoot

If you choose wisely and read all the specs available to you online before you buy

I was looking for a camera that took good panoramic photos and found exactly what I wanted in a point and shoot camera

I stand take my camera and press the snap shot button, I scan the landscape to the next point shown on the screen take another shot, then scan for the third shot until it has taken in all the scene.

Then the magic happens the camera takes the 3 images and stitches them together!

isweep panorama is one of the best features

This shot is our beach at the bottom of the road! the view is nearly 1 mile long

I had a Nikon CoolPix, but dropped it and broke it. I ended up buying a Kodak EasyShare to replace it. I actually wish I had bought another CoolPIx instead, but the EasyShare is good. My hands tremble a lot despite my age, and my dad has the same problem, so a camera that reduces fuzzy pictures from a shaky shot is important to me. One thing I noticed when shopping around on amazon.com is that less popular colors of the exact same make and model can be cheaper than a more popular color...so if you don't mind what color your camera is that can be one way to save some cash.

I somehow lost my camera. It was a Powershot and I loved it. Worked great and made nice videos also. I plan to buy another one. I have had a Sureshot and a Powershot, and have been happy with them. I also had an EasyShare and it stopped working early on, so I was not interesting in buying another one of those.

I am, actually. I'm not liking my current camera. The variety out there is endless and it's dizzying. I appreciate you sharing the things to look for.
