This news about two 777 colliding on runway is insane.
With all the sensor technologies available on self driving cars... it should be easy to create a system on these planes to avoid contact with anything within 20 feet radius.
The cost would be minimal and the benefits huge.
By the way, the same goes with trains. The recent collision and derailment in Seattle is also totally avoidable. Who is running these systems? How are they so incompetent?
Can't speak for the planes as I haven't heard what happened or why.
But yes, the train derailment was quite preventable. All that needed done was to turn on the system that would have slowed it down prior to the curve - a safety system already installed and operable...but only if turned on.
