Can Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet read and write in OpenOffice Calc ...
spreadsheet format (.ods files). OpenOffice Calc can read and write Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls files).
As far as i know, i cannot. However, OpenOffice is able to save as xls files. If you use the 'save as' functionality in openoffice, then you can easilly export it to a format with which you can edit via Excel.
I don't have Excel, and have no plans to get it. OpenOffice suits me fine. I was just wondering if I could get out of having to continue to make files available in both OpenOffice format (.ods) and Excel format (.xls), which I have been doing using OpenOffice.
It is an easy conversion from OpenOffice (.ods) to Excel (.xls), using OpenOffice; it's just an extra step that I would like to avoid. But since Microsoft is chauvinistic and refuses to be reciprocal, I guess I will have to continue supplying files in both formats, using OpenOffice.
