Google takes street view images using an omnidirectional camera setup on the roof of cars, bikes, vans, etc. This requires them to physically drive every street on the map. This means that updates to the Google street view are few and far between, especially in smaller centers, and is therefore far from live. If you would like a live feed of your street, I suggest setting up a webcam feed from a computer at home that looks out onto the street that you wish to see. This way you can view the street at any time!
