Just put @ and then their screename like @screenname and then type your message and they will see it when they look at their replies on their Twitter.

You could risk being blocked by them With the "@"

use the @before their handle and it will show up in their stream.  If you are looking to connect, reply to something or jump (into) a conversation. If they posted a great link, send them a thank you. If you really like their stuff, give them a #FF (follow friday) by putting out the @handle, a reason you like them, and the hashtag #FF in the tweet. If you're looking to solicit a sale with someone that you have never interacted with, find a reason to connect first.

By putting a @ infront of their username, which is not neccesarily their real name, you are "mentioning" them in a tweet of yours. So, if they click on "mentions" in their profile they will see your tweet.

It will not go directly to their timeline.
Celebs probably get a million tweets a day, so only people you follow appear on your timeline.
If you are thinking of tweeting a celeb...goodluck, pray they click on "mentions" and see your tweet.

    Hope this helps.
