How to remove a virus protector that won't uninstall?
Someone gave me a computer and it sat for yrs. the virus protector won't even update probable because it don't exist anymore. A window from the virus protector keeps popping up and blocking me from doing anything on the computer.
It sounds it might be a fake antivirus program. I would recommend running MalwareBytes to remove it.
Use the free version

If your certain it is a legitimate antivirus such as Norton of McAfee then you can attempt to uninstall it (control panel \ programs and features).
If the control panel method doesn't work you can run the removal tool from the manufacturer. Google for Norton removal tool, or McAfee removal tool.
I agree with skear and I personally use malwarebytes to remove malware or fake antivirus programs. In addition I have found that spybot search and destroy program is also effective and free. Just go to their website and get a free download. Spybot has saved my computer so many times and I have used it to fix other people's computers.
I never knew about any of the tools/softwares mentioned below. So every time such things happen I format my machine which is not at all a good idea.
you can remove it manually. go to installation folder and delete the whole folder
