Does using dual monitors really increase productivity?

Yes, in my opinion it does.

I now use 6 monitors on my primary workstation and multi-task like mad.

There is an adjustment period at first before you learn to fully utilize multiple monitors.

For programming, graphics design, or finance related work multiple monitors are indispensable.  More screen space lets you monitor multiple sets of data or view reference materials while working.

My multi-monitor hub has some more benefits as well.

Yes, there are plenty of times where two screens benefit the user, it definitely is some type of learning curve to get used to using two screens, but once you start using two screens and you're used to it, you get annoyed when you don't have them.  The most recent project in which required two screens for me was redesigning a website, it made the whole process so much better, including the coding, the testing and everything.

I think it does.  I have had dual monitors for awhile now.
