How do you replace a laptop screen that has been cracked?
My son saved up and bought a Dell Inspiron this summer to bring to college, but somehow he accidentally cracked the screen. The laptop is still usable but the long crack with black near it is bad and it seems to be getting worse. I thought I could order a screen and replace it, but I cannot even figure out how to open the frame/cover to remove the broken screen. All answers will be appreciated.
It takes a bit of work to replace the screen but it can be done.
The Dell service manual will walk you through the process step by step. You can find the service manual online from the Dell suppport site.

You may need a plastic scribe tool to remove the bezel and separate the frame without damaging it.

If you did happen to purchase the complete care warranty coverage then the screen would most likely be covered against accidental damages.
Best of luck.
