What has been the greatest technological advancement in the past 10 years?

Of all the new technology we see every year, which one do you think has been the most significant.

Digital photography.  It has changed the way we share our lives through all the other technilogical toys that have come along.

I agree with Kathleen. Digital photography, combined with widespread smartphone and tablet usage has turned all of us into amateur photographers. Great for publishing, as on hubpages. Shoot the picture, email it to yourself, post it on your Hub.

I believe nanotechnology has been the greatest advancement in the past 10 years. It has caused the microminiaturization of all types of devices. This has allowed cramming the computing power of very large main frame computers that occupied rooms full of equipment into hand held devices. It has lowered power consumption and given the average housewife the power of very large sophisticated computer systems. Along with this it allows making memory devices in the gigabyte range that you can hold in the palm of your hand. If it wasn't for nanotechnology and microminiaturization, I wouldn't be able to answer this question on my laptop.

Hi Marcy.....If you're asking for an answer from a personal point of view  as opposed to a World View.......This Gram Dawg would vote for Skype!   I have a son and his family in Georgia and another in California.........I get to see my grand daughters as we chat.......For a Baby boomer, this is mind-blowing.
I was just thinking the other day about what in the He**  we ever did before the cell phone!!    I can remember driving around looking for a "phone booth" to contact someone I needed to speak to IMMEDIATELY   LMAO!!   And I don't know about anyone else, but every public phone I ever tried to use was either Out-of-Order or ate up my coins!!!

I think all the answers point to the same thing--the Internet. The Internet has changed how we store and retrieve information. This question and answer exchange would not be happening if there was no internet. Digital photography would not be as important if e-mail was not available to send the pictures back and forth.

Someday, someone will right that the invention of the internet is only second to the invention of the wheel. The wheel was probably invented by accident. The internet was part accident but a lot of determination.

I agree with Larry et.al. The Internet, email, and digital camera are enabling people all over the world to develop new technologies, products, and earth-friendly practices together. They've triggered revolutions, revelations, and personal expansion.

I would probably have to say wireless communication. From wireless networking to mobile phones, I know that is two different technologies, but the common denominator is wireless.
