    This a resister to filter out noise. It is much like the resister spark plugs for your car. In your car it will stop engine noise to your radio. Your computer will not cause noise to other transmitters with this ferrite type resister. At least, this is what I was told when I worked at a power supply cord factory and molded these to the cords.

    Any ferrite choke is designed to help reduce the transmission of high frequency electrical noise, while allowing lower frequency signals to get through.  You'll see ferrite chokes in VGA cables too.
