WiFi access for an older PC
My old computer is about 8 years old and has a card and slot for directly connecting it to the box provided by our Internet provider. I want to give this PC to my son who lives in an apartment complex with free WiFi access. Is there a card or USB device that can be plugged into the PC so he can access the building's WiFi?
Yes. It may be hard to find without going onto the internet, but WIFI cards are available for your old desktop PC. Make sure you have an open slot first though.
DON
Yeah Chuck .you can buy USB WiFi adapter and can access the building's WiFi. There are different USB adapter available in the market whose price varies with the features and capability provided. The device's driver comes along the device.
Using the instruction given in the user manual, these devices as well as driver software can easily be installed in your old desktop PC.Hope it helps.
Hi Chuck
You can get some excellent, very high powered usb wifi adapters for around 75 bucks. You want to make sure that they use an antenna (or two). I found one on ebay for reference -- 300 mbps, dual antenna.

The beautiful thing about usb devices is you can unplug from one pc and simply plug into another. Thats exactly why I recommend spending a little extra on a high powered device...this usb adapter will most likely out live that PC, and you could easliy plug this into the next pc. (make sure the USB device has an external antenna as shown.....you'll be able to pick up signals from hundreds of yards away).
found another one here:
