Logitech Harmony One Universal Remote

Although you enjoy playing with your home entertainment system, the individual components don't always play well together. Each piece insists upon having its own remote control, leaving you to juggle the confusing clutter of multiple remotes. Logitech's Harmony One remote solves the problem of too many controls, coordinating each piece of equipment so they all operate in -- well, in harmony -- all from one single remote control.

Today's well-equipped entertainment system includes a variety of components, from TV and DVD to sound systems and game players, each of which comes with its own remote control. You can deal with the first couple of pieces, but as you add additional components, it becomes difficult to remember which remote controls which equipment...that is, if you can even find the remote. How many times have you wished for one universal remote to operate all of your equipment? With the ability to synchronize 5,000 brands, Harmony One easily grants that wish.

Home entertainment shouldn't be a frustration. You shouldn't need to refer to written directions every time you want to watch a movie or play a game. You shouldn't have to search behind the sofa cushions for the right remote. With Harmony One, you only need one remote, and it has its own recharging cradle so you'll always know where it is. Easy to program and simple to use, this is the one-for-all universal remote everyone can use.

How The Logitech Harmony One Remote Works

Benefits Of Harmony One Universal Remote

This Logitech universal remote makes life easier.

So why would you really need the Harmony One remote? How hard can it be to use two or three different remote controls? Well, for one thing, remote controls never seem to be close at hand. They tend to migrate around a room and never land in the same place consistently -- a fact that rather defeats their purpose. If a remote is within reach, it is often not the one you need for what you want to do. And the Harmony One can be programmed to control an entertainment system with up to 15 separate components. What if you had to handle 15 different remotes?

You'll always know where to find the Logitech Harmony One remote because it has its own recharging cradle. Every user in the house is much more likely to put the remote on the cradle, because if they don't, they may just find themselves with a dead battery. And the recharging cradle means you won't have to buy batteries for the remote.

Programming the Logitech Harmony One is easy, but if you ever get stuck, live customer support is just a phone call away. The remote can be programmed to carry out functions that are grouped into "Activities." That means that instead of individually clicking to perform tasks in preparation for watching or recording TV, for instance, it just takes one touch and the remote carries out the steps of turning on the TV, Tivo and the receiver and setting the Inputs -- all according to the way you want to experience it. If the Harmony One ever fails to turn on or off any of the components, make sure you are keeping the remote pointed toward the devices until the entire sequence is completed.

Harmony One Universal Remote Programming

Using Logitech Harmony remote software

The Harmony One software does all the hard work of programming your remote. Install the software on your computer and enter the model numbers of your devices; the software retrieves the proper codes right from the internet. Then connect the remote to your computer with the included USB cable and download the settings. Now you have all the setup codes you need to customize your remote control buttons and settings. (It's easiest if your computer is near your TV when you are getting everything set up the way you want it.)

The controls on the Harmony One remote can be customized and rearranged to function most efficiently for the way you use your entertainment system. Be aware that customization sessions can time out if you spend a long time at it. If you are experimenting or rearranging controls for a complicated system, remember to save your changes every five minutes, so you don't lose your settings.

Currently we have nothing that works with a remote! Whew, what a relief, but yes, I miss my TV. A Harmony One sounds like a lifesaver for those with a table full of remote control devices, and I'm sure we'll be included in that group within the next few months.

Very helpful review. I know our daughter has 2 or 3 remotes on the coffee table. This Harmony One remote would be a great Christmas gift.
