Honey, Do You Like My Mobile Honey Do List?

Updated on October 1, 2012

Mobile Apps Make Honey Do Lists More Do-able

I'm a work at home mom with a husband that works in a fast, high stress office. He's absent-minded anyway, and his job makes his honey do list at home even more distant from his mind. Rather than accepting this, I've made it my mission to use his mobile to keep the priorities at home a priority. I've tried a lot of mobile apps - Cozi, RememberTheMilk, Astrid, and more. Keep reading to find out what the most effective honey do list application is for us, and how we use it to keep our household in order.

Before I tell you what works for me, let's find out what works for you... - Are you using traditional paper honey do lists, or are you using smart phone or web

Why *I* Need an Up to Date Honey Do List For My Husband

The Honey Do List is Really More for Me than it is for Him

I won't go into the details, but between my husband and I we have several mental illness spectrum disorders (some diagnosed, others not). However, I've learned to compensate for some of my issues. I'm a good planner and can follow todo lists well, but if something isn't written down (or typed in a saved todo list somewhere) I forget about it and nothing will ever come of it. In order to keep my household functioning, I have to have good daily, weekly, monthly, and yet-to-be-determined lists! It's also important that I keep up a honey do list, because if I don't when my husband asks me what I need done around the house, I'll shrug and say, "I don't know. I'm sure there's something but I can't think of anything right now."

Honey, can you check the honey do list

before the end of the year, please?

I really love that you can check "today" "yesterday" or "from now on."

Remembering to Check the Honey Do List - And Me Remembering to Keep it Up to Date

The single most important thing my husband can do is to CHECK THE HONEY DO LIST. Even if he doesn't check one thing off, if he checks the honey do list we have a chance that he will know what's going on in our house.

We've tried using RememberTheMilk and love it (but to use it like we want to, there's an annual fee). So then we moved on to using Cozi. Cozi is great for us because we use it to keep track of household projects, todos for vacations, grocery shopping and we can share it between both our phones. But Cozi is lacking one major feature that we require - a reminder to CHECK THE HONEY DO LIST. Even with todo lists added to my husband's mobile desktop, he will forget to check them. So it's imperative that whatever we use have the ability to pop up in front of everything else he has on his phone and make him check the todo list (or "snooze" it for later).

So far the best solution we've found is Astrid. With Astrid, I can log on to his account through the web, and set up recurring reminders for the important stuff (like checking his list daily, or if he is required to pick up a kid). Everything else, we currently manage through Cozi.

Please let us know if you've had success using technology to maintain a honey do list. We can all learn from each other.
