Cheap tablets in India below Rs.5000
In India popularity of cheap tablets is increasing. New models are coming to the market day by day. This revolution was started by the release of the cheapest tablet aakash to the market. Here I am listing the cheap tablets in India. If you are going to buy a gift for children studying in school, before buying a mobile think about a tablet, as it is a more good option. It can be used for study purpose also.
Aakash 2 tablet ( Price Rs.2999 )
Aakash tablet was released with only limited number. But now Aakash 2 tablet is coming to the market correcting the flaws of the previous tablet. It comes with good hardware specifications and Android 2.3. Currently pre booking has started and booking has crossed millions in the first week itself. Now the manufacturing company Datawind is distributing the tablet, in the booked order.
Its specification are
- Processor: 800MHz Cortex A8 Processor
- Graphics processor (GPU) : HD video coprocessor.
- OS: Android 2.3 GingerBread
- RAM: 256MB
- Screen: 7 inch resistive touch 800x400 resolution.
- Internal Storage: 2 GB
- Battery :3200mAh
- Connectivity : It offers WIFI and GPRS connectivity. It will also support external USB dongles
- Additional Capabilities : 3 hour battery backup, 2 full USB port, all phone capabilities, Office document support.
Pros
The main plus point of the tablet is its cheap price. It came to the market with "the cheapest tablet in the world" tag. It offers all methods of connectivity except bluetooth. GPRS will be useful in rural areas where still other connectivity methods have not reached. Also the presence of video processor will enable the tablet to play even HD videos, so all videos that you can play in your desktop can be played in tablet also. Watching movies will be a good experience. Also the presence of two full USB 2.0 ports makes data transfer using standard pen drives an easy task.
Cons
To bring all these features in this price surely something has to be sacrificed. Build quality is less. There is no camera in the device. Resistive touch is not as responsive as capacitive (but you can expect only resistive touch for this price.). In aakash 1 there was overheating problem, not sure whether it is completely solved in aakash 2.
BSNL Tablet T-PAD IS701R (Price Rs.3499)
BSNL has released three Android tablet of different price category and specifications. There is only one model called T-PAD IS701R within the below Rs.5000 price tag. Surely it will be a competition for aakash tablet, as it is more fast and have some additional features like camera for video calling, but it is lacking some features that is present in Aakash tablet like full USB port, phone functionality etc. Select one based on your requirements.
- Processor: 1GHz IMAPX210 Processor
- Graphics processor (GPU) : Vivante GC600 GPU.
- OS: Android 2.3 GingerBread
- RAM: 256MB
- Screen: 7 inch resistive touch 800x480 resolution.
- Internal Storage: 2 GB NAND Flash
- Battery :3000mAh
- Connectivity : It offers WIFI and GPRS connectivity. It will also support external USB dongles
- Camera :0.3MP
- Additional Capabilities : Mini USB ports, Office document support, Mini HDMI port
Pros
Surely the BSNL tablet is faster than Aakash tablet. But as it is in the cortex 11 series, its performance will not be much above the cortex 8 series Aakash tablet, as aakash processor series is new. GPU was released to market in 2008, which was the first one supporting all 2D and 3D graphics, supported by Android. So playing games and videos will not be a problem. Presence of camera is an additional edge, as it provides video call support for the tablet. Also the presence of Mini HDMI port offers enjoying the tablet display in bigger screens of TVs.
Cons
Comparing to Aakash tablet, one drawback of BSNL tablet is the absence of full USB port, only mini USB port is there. So you cannot connect pen drives directly and copy paste as you do in computer. But it is possible in Aakash tablet. Another one facility that is not available is the absence of phone capabilities. Even though SIM card can be inserted, that is only used for internet connectivity. For making calls you will have to resort on third party softwares like skype.
Wishtel IRA (Price. Rs.4000)
This is another alternative for the cheap Aakash tablet. This tablet has two faster versions costing Rs.5000, Rs.5500 etc named Wishtel IRA Icon E, Wishtel IRA Thing E. The specification of Wishtel IRA includes 800MHz processor running on Android 2.2 Froyo. RAM of 512MB is capable of providing enough multitasking capabilities in budget tablets. 2GB internal memory is present, expandable memory card slot supporting up to 32GB is also available. Even though SIM card slot is not present, usb port supports external 3G and CDMA USB dongles which can provide fast internet connectivity.
- Processor: 800MHz Processor
- OS: Android 2.2 Froyo
- RAM: 512MB
- Screen: 7 inch resistive touch 800x480 resolution.
- Internal Storage: 2 GB Flash
- Battery :2800mAh
- Connectivity : It offers WIFI. It will also support external USB dongle.
- Additional Capabilities : One full USB port and a Mini USB port, Office document support, pre installed skype
Pros
512MB RAM offers good multitasking capabilities. Presence of 1 full USB port offers use of common pen drives. Presence of gravity sensor offers good gaming experience, using these sensors. In higher priced versions front camera is also present. It supports office documents, using pre installed apps. Also study materials helpful for students are pre loaded in it.
Cons
Comparing to the previous tablets Aakash and BSNL, there are certain drawbacks for the tablet. This tablet does not possess any phoning capabilities like aakash. Even SIM card slot is not present. Separate graphics processor is absent. But still manufacturers claim that the tablet is capable of playing 720p videos.
