Tamrac Camera Bag Review

Updated on February 12, 2018

Many years ago, I learned a lesson the hard way. I owned the best camera and assortment of lenses and accessories that I could purchase at the time. And frankly, at that point in my life, I had no business spending that much money on camera equipment. But I made the purchases and enjoyed taking photographs of everything and anything. The darkroom was my favorite place to be.

The one thing I did not purchase was a decent camera bag. I came to regret that decision fairly quickly.

I am quite sure the lack of an appropriate camera bag is what led to the early demise of both my camera and my zoom lens. There was wear and tear on almost every accessory from things rattling around and rubbing together. Yes photographers, go ahead and cringe. My accessories first rattled around together in a generic tote bag and later in a very cheaply made camera bag.

Today, I have an amazing Sony a37 camera (which I highly recommend) and I want to preserve it. To do so, I immediately purchased a good camera bag. Tamrac offers awesome camera bags. There is a style of Tamrac for every style preference and every size of camera.

I own a Tamrac camera bag. It is an older bag in the Adventure series, and may still be found on shelves in camera stores. However, it is no longer available on the Tamrac Website. I have since looked at the Tamrac Explorer 1 series, and it is virtually the same bag as mine with only two noticeable differences. It is approximately 1" larger in each direction, and minus a pocket at the strap area that holds my cell phone.

Stylish and Practical Protection

There is such a large variety of styles that you are sure to find something that will fit you and your photography needs. These are some of the reasons I love my camera bag:

  • Made of durable materials
  • All plastic pieces and buckles are heavy duty and durable
  • The flap buckle works easily and is durable.
  • High quality zippers that do not get snagged or stuck
  • Padded dividers to hold your camera securely and/or store lenses separately.
  • A variety of pockets and dividers to hold your cell phone, filters, battery charger, and other accessories or necessities.
  • Reasonably priced compared to other bags
  • A good size for carrying along a single camera and a few lenses/supplies, but not too bulky to take on that longer hike.

If you look at the Explorer 1 bag diagram shown in the Amazon listing, or watch the video below, you will see the padded dividers I am referring to. I lay my camera into that middle section, lens down, and I feel as though my camera is never jarred.

Protect Your Equipment

Photographers, amateur or professional, protect your investment. Tamrac bags are an excellent value if you compare their price tags to their high level of quality. Your equipment will last longer, hold it's value, and remain reliable if you keep it protected.

A Few More Items. Ph...

A Few More Items.

Photography means a camera and accessories. Everyone who takes pictures wants more lenses, more camera, and more accessories. I am an amateur photographer but I too have the never-ending photographer's wish list.

I have owned several camera bags over the years. I keep looking for one that is lightweight enough to carry, but will hold all of the accessories I need to carry with me. Sounds like you have found a great recommendation to meet my needs.

The right camera bag makes such a difference. I know Tamrac gear is high quality. Since camera equipment is a big investment, we shouldn't skimp on protection. Excellent choice.

I am not a photographer but even I cringed along with you at the thought of your camera and equipment being ruined. Good thing you have the tarmac now to protect your new camera while you hike the Mid-Atlantic!
