youtube.com was Founded in February 2005, by three Ex-employees of PayPal, with the motto of “broadcast yourself”. In 2006 youtube.com become so popular that Google started to sense the future of video sharing sites and finally decided to buy YouTube in that year with 1.65 Billion US dollars.


Founders of YouTube

The domain name www.youtube.com was registered in February 14, 2005, prior to that the three founders of YouTube- Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawad Karim- were employed in PayPal.

Chad Hurley-born in 1977 in Pennsylvania, a US citizen. He has a B.A. in Fine Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During his work at PayPal, he met the other two YouTube co-founders- Jawed and Chen.

Steve Chen-He was born in Taipei, Taiwan and his family emigrated to USA when he was eight. He received bachelor degree in computer science from University of Illinois. Apart from PayPal, he also worked for Facebook

Jawed Karim- He is a Bangladeshi–American and bachelor in Computer Science at University of Illinois. Jawed uploaded the first YouTube video in April 23, 2005.

YouTube video copyright issues

In YouTube, users can only upload videos created by them. Users are not allowed to upload any copyright materials or video clips. Yet, there are numerous copyright clips on YouTube and these videos will not be deleted until copyright holders claim a takedown request to YouTube team. Therefore, ideally no one is allowed to upload copyright videos. Recently YouTube has implemented a copyright video filter system that checks every uploaded video against a list of copyrighted items and if any violation is found then that video is automatically become publicly available.

Rent a movie

This is a new monetizing opportunity where YouTube partners can offer pay-to-view service to its customer for watching their videos. This rental model is still in beta form and only US partner can participate in this program. If you are living in US and want to monetize your video content then you must apply for this program.

YouTube has a great collection of 3D videos. If a video has 3D view option, then there will be a 3D button just below the video player. However, you can only see the videos with 3D that the uploader has created in 3D format. How to join YouTube Partner program

By creating original video, you can earn form YouTube partnership program based on cost-per-impression. There are two types of partnership-individual video partnership (IVP) and YouTube partnership program (YPP). IVP is for individual, whereas YPP is for all the video in an account. IVP is an invite-only program. If you have an uploaded video on your account with thousands of views, then Google consider whether your video full-fill their criteria of IVP partnership program. If you quality then you will receive an invitation email to join the IVP program. YPP program is applicable for all the uploaded videos, you must apply for if you think that your videos are original, have thousands of views, and the contents are safe for family view.
