A Tech Trip to Vienna #ItMeansNothingToMe

The Journey

Why ?

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to get some spare cash and one of the things I decided to do was, if possible, self fund a trip to Nokia World in Helsinki as I had attended as a guest of Nokia last year in London and thoroughly enjoyed it, both the atmosphere and the people there, as much as the products, sadly things changed and the event was both moved and became invitation only and split between Helsinki and New York, the main event being in New York. My invite last year was a one off but despite that I had booked time off work and got as far as checking flights to Finland, fortunately I didn't actually book one before the changed dates and format were announced !

Moving on a few weeks and I saw a few Tweets between Michael Hell (@MichaelxHell on Twitter) and Richard Dorman (@Sheridan01 on Twitter) saying they were going to have a meet up in Vienna as neither of them would be going to Nokia World either, due to the changes, so , as I'd met both Michael & Richard before and we quite often chat on Twitter I DM'd Richard and asked if he minded if I tagged along, bit cheeky, but if you don't ask, you don't get. Anyway the guys, including Dhruv Bhutani, who is also coming over for a tour of Europe and meeting up in Vienna at the start of his trip, didn't object, so as I'd booked time off work anyway and also had the funds available, I booked a flight to Vienna and tomorrow , Friday 21st Sepember, I fly out to have my own mini 'Nokia World' with some great guys.

I'm really looking forward to it and am sure it will involve a lot of tech talk, a good few laughs, me improving my photography skills (@ Sheridan01 @MichaelxHell and @DhruvBhutani are all great photographers who I hope to get some tricks and tips from) some great food and drink and lashings of sightseeing.

Anyway the main point of this post is really a place for me to post a few photos, and if connectivity and time allows something to update whilst I'm away as I tried to do when I travelled to Thailand last year, whether it's of interest to anyone else or not I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it will preserve some happy and fun memories for me :)

Holiday Tech

Travelling Tech

For anyone that may be interested, the tech I'm taking with me for the trip, mainly Nokia surprisingly enough, is, along with the other guys, a Nokia 808 so there will be four of those (well five, as Richard will have two of his own!!!) giving a total of 205 megapixels of Nokia Photographic goodness, plus my Booklet 3G as it's great for battery life and as well as being able to use it as a laptop it makes a great reserve power source. I will also be taking my Lumia 800 and my N9 along with my Essence BT headset and my DC-16 mobile charger and my Nexus 7 tablet for a bit of media on the plane journey and stopover. So that's it for now, there will either be a short update over the weekend or I will finish this off when I return from Austria, assuming I can actually remember anything ? LOL

Journey & Arrival

So I got to Vienna ok, but not without a couple of very minor hiccups, my timing wasn't great and that added to the car park I was using having only one bus running instead of two and also only one lift at Manchester Airport departures working meant I got to my boarding gate as people were already getting on board, which for me is cutting things pretty fine. However I made it to Frankfurt ok for my connecting flight and eventually hit Vienna about six pm and once I had Tweeted my arrival I was hit by a barrage of text messages from Richard and he said he'd wait outside the main hotel for me, as we were in an annex a few yards away.

Once I had checked in at the Mercure Hotel and had a freshen up Rich and I wandered into Vienna to find something to eat, Richard also pointed out the location of all the local Starbucks as he is a world expert on them and also addicted to caffeine :-) Anyway other than stopping to take a couple of shots of the church in Stephansplatz on the way, the evening basically involved eating, drinking and chatting, it was great to have a chat with Rich which involved more than 140 characters.

Was hoping to update this piece whilst away, but we squeezed so much into the weekend that I didn't have time, so I'm doing this waiting for my flight home and will do a couple of follow ups of the events organised for us by Michael Hell once I'm home, there will be quite a few photos to, once I've had a look at what I've taken properly.

End of part one

Well that's about it for now, all I could manage during travel, parts 2 &3 will be up three when I have time at home. For now I need to catch my plane from Munich to Manchester :-)

LOL , Don't be Dani, it's only a Holiday, and this is here to hopefully keep people informed or for a bit of interest, not to upset people :(
