Clearwater Beach FL: Great Clarity and Water Temperature at Floridas Gulf Coast in Clearwater Beach...

Updated on February 15, 2012

Clearwater Beach FL...

The east coast of Florida is fine and dandy if you are a surfer and don’t mind not seeing your feet in knee deep water, but if you are looking for fantastic color and clarity in the beach water, then check out Clearwater Beach FL! The name “Clearwater” might give you a hint as to why they named it that way… The Gulf coast is famous for the turquoise colors and clarity. It may be the most popular beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida, at least south of Destin. The Florida Panhandle area may still have the clearest water in all Florida, you can stand in chest deep water and see your toes!

Clearwater Beach FL is an awesome beach for more reasons than the water, there is also a lot to do there. You may not be able to actually drive on the beach like you can in Daytona Beach or New Smyrna Beach, but there is a massive parking lot for you to drop your car off for the day while you enjoy yourself. It is just a short hike to the beach, and then you can just set up camp for a while for swimming and sunning. The sand is actually whiter and softer than over on the east coast and people from around the world love it!

Clearwater Beach FL Sunset...

There are plenty of great places to eat right off the beach, and you are sure to find something perfect for that lunchtime meal or maybe a seafood dinner on the verandah overlooking the water as the sun sets… That’s another one of the best things about the Florida Gulf Coast beaches, is that they face the setting sun in the west, and of course the sunsets are incredible! After a fantastic day on the beach having fun, you may just be able to see that very rare “flash of green” as the sun dips just below the horizon… I always watch for it, but have only seen it twice so far, once in Key West and the other time at Clearwater Beach FL... It’s supposed to evoke magic powers upon you… I guess that’s why I can fly now!

The famous Clearwater Beach Marina is also located directly across the parking area and beach, and it’s a great spot to grab a fishing charter or other boat ride. They offer speedboat rides up to around 60 mph or so, and it’s a very popular ride! They leave the marina about 4 or 5 times a day when it’s busy, and it fills up fast so make sure to get your tickets early… Dolphins love to play in the wakes of this speedboat, and it’s almost guaranteed that you will see some along the way! Or how about a two hour long dinner or lunch cruise? These trips are incredible, and you are sure to have a great time in Clearwater Beach FL.

Clearwater Beach FL Fun...

Interested in gambling? They have casino ships in the area that will take you just offshore past the limit where gambling is legal and the U.S. has no jurisdiction. These ships will usually give away free tickets and serve free drinks all night long, because they want you to hop on board and gamble your money away. The house almost always wins, and they know this… So it’s in their best interest to get as many people onboard as they can, and they usually keep you out there for several hours. Check with the boat company first, but you may return back to the dock at 4:00 am!

They also have a pier at Clearwater Beach FL, and it’s a very popular area for arts and crafts merchants later in the evening on weekends, and they also have a big concert band shell for festivals and special parties. During the summer, they offer several of these “Caribbean flavored” concerts that are free and you are sure to love! Locals in the City of Tampa / St. Petersburg FL area flock to Clearwater Beach Florida for these concerts… The only drawback to Clearwater Beach can be the water temperature during the heat of the summer. In contrast to the east coast, the Gulf Coast can seem like bathwater near shore at times! This may be because of the shallowness of the water versus the east coast.

Both coasts have their pros and cons, and if you’re after surfing then the Gulf Coast is not for you since there are very few waves of any size. You can drive on the beach over in Daytona Beach FL, but you can’t in Clearwater Beach FL. However, the water clarity is much better on the Gulf Coast… We call the west side of Florida the Gulf Coast, and the Pacific Coast of California the “Left Coast”… Anyway, I hope you have a little more knowledge of your beach choices in Florida now, and are planning your next trip there… Have fun!
