La Connor is great, quiet, lazy, friendly

I can't say enough about a cute little town we discovered while traveling through Washington this year!

I have seen The San Juan islands in movies and always thought I would love to see them just to see if it is as beautiful as the movies show it to be. Well, when we planned the trip I said, "honey if we don't do anything else on this trip I want to see the San Juan islands." Being the caring thoughtful man he is, and not in the mood for a divorce, he searched the net until he found a place for us to stay and researched how and when to get to the ferry. Yes, there is actually a ferry you can ride that carries vehicles as well as people! I didn't know there was such a thing still in operation!

We arrived in La Connor about three weeks after the famed Tulip festivities and were told by everyone what a shame it was that we missed it. Such beauty to behold! Needless to say, we have to go back at the right time of year next time.

We stayed in a home with friends so didn't get to experience the Bed & Breakfasts that are waiting for your arrival:

There are many more Inns but this will give you someplace to stay.

If you happen to stay in one that does not serve breakfast, have no fear! We loved all the restaurants we tried. The food was always good, service was excellent and everyone in town was friendly and helpful when we needed guidance.

After you finish breakfast, walk down to the main street of town and just wonder from street to street. LaConner is a small town located right on the waterway with boats tied up directly behind many of the local restaurants so most places you choose to eat have a view of water or you can just walk along and enjoy it. Gift shops are in abundance but they are not the "junky type" we sometimes see. They have good quality gifts, some locally made.

One shop I fell in love with has some custom built wood items and the lady I visited with made fabric purses right in front of you eyes while she takes care of the store. Each purse is unique, no two alike! You can choose your fabric from many bolts and she will just whip it up for you. They are very pretty.

The Ferry Boat

You can get information regarding the Ferry Boat ride from most anyone in town. The Ferry Building is about twenty miles away, an easy ride from where you will be staying.

We left the Ferry at Friday's Harbor, walked all around the little town, sit in a restaurant overlooking the harbor and toasted with a glass of Champagne (me) and a glass of beer (Gary). We sat and enjoyed the boats coming in and out of the harbor until time for our Ferry to return and pick us up.

The view is breath-taking, the ride is quite smooth and of course, the company (my honey) was great!
