Let's sip champagne- Korbel Champagne winery, Guerneville,CA
Korbel California Champagne
Wine tasting in Sonoma Wine country
If you love to tour wineries, I highly recommend Korbel Champagne Cellars at Guerneville, Ca. The tour guide we had yesterday was excellent! She described the history of the winery as well as the various steps taken to create this tasty treat. We were told the tour is about 40-45 minutes and I thougth that sounded like possibly more walking than I wished to do (after all, I was there for the FREE tasting!), however, as we climbed up and down various flights of stairs and long hallways, I realized it was word every step. A good tour guide is able to tell you how to Taste Wine properly.
As we walked through the cellar, our tour guide told us the histoy of the Korbel brothers: how one brother was thrown into prison in thier homeland and escaped with the help of thier loving, devoted mother. After arriving in the United states they tried various lines of work including making cigar boxes! It is a very interesting history so don't make the mistake of just heading for the tasting room! You must go on the tour. Wine Making is definatly where they found thier niche.
Korbel is located about 60 miles north of San Francisco. Highway 101 will take you to Santa Rosa where you will take the River Road exit just north of Santa Rosa and head toward the ocean. Just watch for the signs and the winery is on the right side of the road. There is lots of parking, a gift shop and if you are hungry, there is also a deli!
Address: 13250 River Road, Gureneville, Ca.
Korbel makes a huge variety of champagnes. I was amazed that there could be so many available from very dry to very sweet and even a Port that I heard some folks exclaiming about, though we didn't try it. They make at least eleven (11) varieties and perhaps more!
Korbel Brut- their most popular
Korbel Brut Organic
Korbel Rose'
Korbel Sweet Rose'
Just to name a few! The list seems endless.
When you finish tasting all the fine Champagne, drive a few more miles on River Road and walk on the sand at the beach!
Beautiful bottles! Korbel California Champagnes
We love this place!
