Charleston, SC-Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park

Updated on December 3, 2010

Mount Pleasant Pier

The Mount Pleasant Pier is part of the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. It's just over the Cooper River Bridge from Charleston, South Carolina. Patriots Point is part of the large park area. You can get from the "Pier" to the USS Yorktown without getting on major roads. It's very easy and safe to do by bicycle.

Wonders Way

Wonders Way-Ravenel Bridge-Hwy. 17-Cooper River

By all means ride across the Cooper River from Charleston by way of Wonders Way on your bicycle or you can walk. You can see the USS Yorktown and Patriots Point to the right as you're crossing the beautiful bridge. After crossing the River turn right as you exit the bridge and continue making right turns as you go underneath the bridge and you are now at the Mount Pleasant Pier.

You can drive Highway 17 as well. Stay in the right lane and first chance you get make right turns and you're there by auto. If you cross the bridge and make the first hard right turn and then continue straight ahead you will wind up at Patriots Point and the USS Yorktown.

Pay Parking

As you can see you're parking under Wonders Way. This is "pay as you park" so bring some quarters.

There are many things for the kids to do right here!

There are many views to appreciate. They'll change with the sun.

The pier at Memorial Waterfront Park is 1,250-foot-long.

There will be a boat or another watercraft to come along really soon!

The "Pier" seems to be enjoyed by folks of all ages.

There is plenty of seating for dining and getting out of the elements should they arise.

There is an 8,100-square-foot covered pavilion for events was built at the end of the pier. The pier also has bench swings at three additional shade structures.

Bring your camera. You never know what will happen.

Charleston's skyline is beautiful.

Take a lot of shots. The sky will be different. Just hang around!

The Memorial Waterfront Park Pier offers a snack and tackle shop as well as a gift shop.

There is "Pier" fishing beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday and continues until 6 p.m. After which, the pier closes to fishing and becomes a viewing location for the fireworks that begin at 10:05 p.m. from the flight deck of the Yorktown at Patriots Point.

Ride a bike, ride a bike, ride a bike!

Walking, running, or riding- Wonders Way and the Mount Pleasant Pier are very hard to beat!

These treasures offered by the Charleston Parks and Recreation really invite you out as you can see. Once you've been here you'll want an encore.

At the top of that bridge it is cooler than the bottom. I'm in NC now and today I was so hot that I caught on fire. I had to put myself out! Good thing it was so humid too!

I am hours from there and can barely stand going from car to any place air conditioned. If you are at this time in that jacket on those bridges, well...I don't know how. That's why we moved on up and its still bad but most of the year is perfect.

Hey Bud. This has "spring up" in the last year. This is part of a sequence of hubs that actually tie in to make a great little "Charleston Area" tour. I'm not sure how long the Yorktown has been there- long time- probably not before the 80s though. The Pier, Wonders Way, the whole enchilada, is pretty spectacular. If you ever get this way I could take you around. Thanks
