Charleston, SC-Mick's Pics

Updated on March 23, 2010

Charleston's Waterfront

Out in the distance is the Ravenel Bridge connecting Charleston with Mount Pleasant. The "bridge" is host to "Wonders Way" which is named after Garrett Wonders. He was struck and killed while riding a bicycle solo training ride. "Wonders Way" is a wonder. You can get off the interstate for downtown Charleston or cross the Cooper River toward Mt. Pleasant. Either way you can quickly walk, run, or ride your bicycle across the bridge. The highest point for walking or whatever is a couple hundred feet where you will always feel a little cooler than sea-level below. There will probably be a little breeze as you gaze the skyline of Charleston or watch the ships and boats coming in and going out. It is very popular. It's a great hike. Take it all in.

All pics should enlarge with a click!

There is so much to see. It really is amazing. There will always be something you've missed or something new.

A camera is a must in or around Charleston. Most pictures I take are while I'm riding my bicycle. Most of these are taken while pedaling. Do not try this at home- or in Charleston!

You can orient yourself from many points by looking toward the bridge.

Things will look different on different days or at different times of the day.

Cruise ships come and go.

Rainbow Row is always a colorful place to be. You'll find it at the "Battery". Fort Sumter will be visible from many areas.

The beginning of this photography tour is going around the perimeter of the peninsula. Charleston, itself can seem very confusing but it's quite small actually. It's surrounded by much larger communities. Mt. Pleasant is to the north on 17. West Ashley is to the south off 17 as well as Johns Island, Folly Beach, etc. North Charleston is to the north east as well as Hanahan.

Crossing the Ashley River toward the south will take you to West Ashley and so on.

Continuing around without crossing the bridges will take you by the Citadel.

Continuing and making a circle will take you back to I-26, 17 toward Mt. Pleasant, or Charleston downtown. But- you'll see some pleasant neighborhoods first.

Hampton Park is very near the Citadel. Above is another park right on Meeting Street. Meeting connects to king and East Bay. East Bay will take you to the water and to the right it will turn into the Battery.

This is still Meeting above and King Street is to our right as well as many, many fine restaurants.

Horse drawn carriages and pedicabs roam all of the beauty and historical spots.

All of the drivers will give you a great tour with historic insight.

King Street is the shopping mecca.

King Street will take you back toward the water and the Battery.

Many restaurants can be found on King and on the streets around King.

The drivers often turn toward their passengers to inform newcomers to the history of Charleston.

There will always be walkers, runners, or cyclists around the Battery.

Here is Battery Park and Rainbow Row.

You can see that Charleston has things you can do.

You'll run into food or drink everywhere you go.

When it's warm, there are always children playing in this fountain.

Beautiful churches are everywhere.

There are pretty horses, carriages, and pretty girls on bicycles.

There are several bicycle racing teams in and around Charleston as well as a general touring and advocacy club, the Coastal Cyclists.

Many of these pictures you see are taken on different days but I never got tired of Charleston.

Occasionally you might witness an empty pedicab race if business is slow. Don't tell anyone!

Charleston has parks. This one is at the corner of King and Meeting.

This is another day and I'm taking another shot or two of King Street.

Wander around and get just a little lost occasionally!

Pedicabs are driven by some pretty fit drivers.

Of course these "engines" are pretty fit too.

Charleston is a great place to do things and yet it has so many places to enjoy doing nothing.

If you haven't done it yet, you may as well come on and check Charleston out.

As for the "Charleston pics and others, most of the pictures on Micky Dee's hubs are taken by Micky Dee. You can play a game in trying to find out where Micky Dee has placed his name- Micky Dee. Sometimes it appears more than once. You'll often have to click and enlarge the photos though. Thanks!
