For family vacations, Midwest United States offers a lot of different types of getaways. You can commune with nature, visit big city museums, or take off on an adventure. Its ability to combine all this in one makes Branson, Missouri one of the best places to visit in the Midwest. If visiting an amusement park in the morning, having supper on the lake, and then catching a topnotch musical show in the evening appeals to you, Branson will be your best Midwest vacation.

Branson: Entertainment Capital of the World.

Of all the Midwest family vacations you could take, none will match the entertainment value of a Branson vacation. This is probably the place to visit in the Midwest that see the most international tourists. Nevermind Midwest destinations, Branson, MIssouri is one of the top vacation spots in the country. They get close to seven million visitors every year due to the countless attractions and world-class entertainment for all ages. But wait - there's more! All these fun takes place in the gorgeous Ozark mountains.

Branson: The Family Friendly Option

If you're looking for a Midwest family vacation, you really can't do better than Branson. The flavor there is wholesome. Shows are available for all ages and families will appreciate live performances in any of the city's 49 state-of-the-art theaters.

Kids and their parents can enjoy a patriotic revue, listen to a cowboy poet reading, or take in one of the family-friendly variety shows. Magic and comedy share the stage with animals, acrobats, and special effects. Kids will love the dinner show at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede restaurant where they'll see horses and stunt riders perform amazing tricks.

Branson Highlights

Christmas in the Ozarks - Catch the Christmas spirit starting in early November. Most of the shows in Branson transition to their holiday themes with plenty of holiday music, sets, costumes and production numbers.

Silver Dollar City - This 1880s-themed amusement park has been named number in the world by the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions. The 50-acre park is set naturally into its surroundings and features more than 100 craftsmen demonstrating their skills. Festivals are ongoing from April through December and include a Bluegrass & BBQ Festival, National Kids' Fest, and a Salute to the Great American Cowboy. The holiday music festival and light parade at Silver Dollar City was named one of the top 10 in the country by USA Today. Cool off in the adjoining water park.

Table Rock Lake - For a different kind of splash, head out to Table Rock Lake. Take your own boat or rent one and spend the day tubing, water skiing, or just relaxing on this beautiful lake. Many resorts have dock accommodations and rentals. For rustic comfort, check out the fabulous Big Cedar Lodge.

Shopping - Save money for shopping because Branson's outlet shopping is over the top! The boys will want to visit the famous Bass Pro sporting goods super store.

Cabin Rentals - One nice thing about Branson is the variety of lodging. You can stay in a 5 Star hotel, camp, or anything in between. Cabins are a nice compromise. You can get a rustic cabin or a kitchenette cottage located. Many campground/cabin resorts are located within a couple of miles from either Silver Dollar City or downtown Branson. Some cabins (and even campsites!) come with free cable!

    You can say bumper to bumper again, that is why I am planning on getting a hotel in the middle of the strip and doing a lot of walking. Good Workout plus see lots of cool stuff, does it get any better?

    Thanks for the Hub Lela....I can't wait to get to St. Louis! It has been a long time since I have been to Branson and by my calculations it will be at least 30 more years until I should make the return trip so I feel less out of place.....ha ha..Love the hubs!

    Good info for those curious about Branson, MO. It's a great place to have fun, as long as you have lots and lots of money! Oh, did you know Branson is actually an old Indian word? It means "bumper-to-bumper!!!
