The Big Aquatic Life of the Destin, Fl Panhandle Part 2

Updated on October 2, 2012

There is plenty of living going on in our corner of the universe. From snorkeling, to boating, swimming, fishing, water parks, scuba diving, kite boarding, surfing, paddleboards, wake boards, and anything else you can think of, we have it. And we have it in abundance. If you love the water and being on and in it, then Destin real estate, and the Florida panhandle is the place to be. And with miles of pristine beach, millions of square miles of water, and some of the easiest and quickest access to the 100 Fathom Curve for deep water, Destin, FL, and the surrounding areas is where watersport heaven exists.

Scuba Dive/Snorkle

With plenty of wrecks and the addition of natural reefs, Destin is one of the hotter spots to dive in Florida. 3 barges, 2 liberty ships, an LST landing craft, airplanes, the old Destin Bridge, and all of the aquatic life that goes with diving can be found for those that know where to look for sunken treasure. For those persons seeking a more colorful aquatic destination, the reefs just 3 miles from the Destin pass is the place to be. Covered in coral, sponges, and fish, the limestone rock ledges are home to many species, to include the shovelnose and spiney lobster. Ranging in height from 2-10 feet, and being at 80-110 feet deep, this is a fun and gorgeous adventure for anyone to partake, as well as being one of the most popular in the area. Also popular is the Destin jetties, at the entrance to the pass. Known to attract many large game fish as well as other smaller tropical varieties, visibility here ranges from roughly 30-80 feet, allowing for some spectacular aquatic views. All along the gulf coast, from Pensacola to Panama City Beach, are places to be dived and discovered. From historical wrecks to reefs full of life, the Gulf of Mexico doesn't disappoint.

Big Kahuna's WaterPark

Big Kahunas Waterpark, located in the heart of Destin real estate, and across Hwy 98 from the beach, has been offering familys the fresh water opportunity of a lifetime plenty of fun.
