Typhoon Lagoon in Florida: Walt Disney World's Best Water Park in Orlando FL...
Walt Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park...
Walt Disney World in Orlando FL is the largest theme park property in the world, and if you are looking for the best water park in Florida then check out Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon! This water park is my favorite of any that I’ve been to, and it’s a great place to spend a hot summer’s day! There are several other great water parks in Orlando and the City of Tampa, but the layout of Typhoon Lagoon plus the tidal pool make it number one in my book…
Anyone who has ever been to Florida knows how hot it can be down there, especially in the summertime, and everyone tries to escape the heat by heading to the beach or water somewhere. The Typhoon Lagoon water park has plenty of both shaded and sunny locations to sit, lie out, and relax, and also an incredible lazy river for those who just want to float with the current and not do anything active… In fact, they Typhoon Lagoon lazy river is the best I’ve seen anywhere, and I’m sure you will agree! There are plenty of strong and unexpected currents that will keep you guessing, and many bridges that you’ll go under, in addition to various water guns that will pop you every now and then… It’s guaranteed to be a great time!
Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool...
Another feature at Typhoon Lagoon that you won’t see with many other water parks is the fantastic wave pool with a real white sandy beach that you can hang out and play… The waves are on a set schedule so that you can time them, which is important to know because the waves can be pretty big! It’s great to get out there in the deep end and float with the waves as they come, but if you aren’t a strong swimmer you may either want to stay out or bring along a rented floatation device that the park offers. The waves are so strong; they make it all the way to the sand at the very end but are definitely starting to peter out there.
If you are interested in surfing or learning how to surf, take advantage of the Disney offered surf lessons for children and adults 8 and older in the hours before the park opens to the public. In fact, options like this make it more desirable to stay on the Disney property in one of their hotels or resorts so you can take advantage of these more readily! Of course the surf lessons at Typhoon Lagoon will be an additional charge, but well worth it if you would like the experience of learning in a very controlled environment with no crowds!
Surfing Typhoon Lagoon...
Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon...
Probably my all time favorite attraction at this Typhoon Lagoon water park is the “Shark Reef” snorkeling pool, which is an open air tropical coral reef with many types and varieties of colorful fish and even sharks… There is no extra charge for this attraction, and you can swim across the lagoon as many times as you like. It is a salt water lagoon, and they give you fins, vest, and snorkel to swim with. You are supposed to swim directly across, but you can dawdle if there isn’t a big crowd waiting behind you. It’s a fantastic place to cool off, but not everyone who comes to Typhoon Lagoon wants to swim with sea creatures so you may just get lucky and have no line! The Shark Reef water is colder than the wave pool or other pools at the park because they need to adjust it for the health of the fish and sharks, so be prepared for that…
Gang Plank Falls at Typhoon Lagoon...
The whole theme of Typhoon Lagoon is that a hurricane barreled through Central Florida and rearranged the park into a new configuration, with ships and other things placed on top of buildings and trees. It makes for a very interesting day as you explore the park and see things you may not have expected just around the next corner! There are many fantastic slides and other water activities available, including one of my favorites, Gang Plank Falls raft ride! In fact, there are many various tubing and raft rides at the park and you are guaranteed to find something that you will love…
Spend a few hours or all day at Typhoon Lagoon, it’s an amazing place and you will soon figure out why it’s my favorite water park! There is so much to do, whether it’s just sitting around in the shade, relaxing in the sun, active water sliding, or enjoying the 6 foot wave pool! It’s all amazing, but if you get a chance you should also check out the other Disney water park, Blizzard Beach…
