WaterFront Tavern San Diego
Best Tavern in San Diego
All the locals in San Diego know that the Water Front tavern is the best place to hang out, get a drink and eat some of the tastiest gastropub food you are ever going to find. The staff are impossibly warm and friendly and the atmosphere cannot be recreated anywhere else due to the age and interesting history of the place. If you are looking for a bar in San Diego, this is the place to go.
Why The Water Front Tavern Is So Great
1) Location. It's only a block away from Little Italy, the best place to spend any weekend in San Diego. There is always something going on in Little Italy, art shows, live music, performance art. It reminds me of my home town Adelaide, South Australia.
As the name suggests, it is also right near San Diego's beautiful waterfront and taking time to take a sundown stroll along the bay is a time honored tradition that must not be missed. On any given day you will see sailing boats drifting by as well as military vessels and even coastguard choppers flying overhead. There is an excellent chance that you will see playful seals and maybe even frolicking dolphins. If you walk down far enough you will see the magnificent Star of India and the imposing Midway aircraft carrier. Then it's back to the Water Front tavern for a few more drinks and a tasty meal.

2) The Food. The Water Front is a gastropub and, for those that are unfamiliar with the term, that means a bar that sells restaurant quality food. Hard to imagine a tavern with amazing food? Well this place has it and not just your every day, run of the mill stuff either. The Water Front has imaginative dishes like their barbecue chicken quinoa entree. Their food is creative without being overdone. I like good food that tastes great and is easy to eat. When I go to a place and they bring me out a glittering tower of something that looks impossible to eat without a manual, I just send it back and ask for earth food. You won't have that problem at the Water Front but you might have the problem of being able to stop eating.

3) The Bar Staff. As someone that has traveled a LOT over the last twenty-something years, I can say with some authority that the servers and greeters at the Water Front are just about the friendliest that you will find anywhere in the world. Every one of them greets you with a big smile and a warm "Welcome!" When you go, make sure you say "Ahoy!" to the best barmaid you will ever meet, Jenna.
A Part Of San Diego's History
The Water Front tavern has something that you just can't manufacture, atmosphere and history. Opened in 1933 just after prohibition was repealed, this local hot spot has more than eighty years of history soaked into it's walls and floor and it shows. The walls are covered with great photos and memorabilia from days gone by. It's had it's fair share of both famous and infamous patrons too including the legendary wild west lawman and hero of the shootout at the OK Corral, Wyatt Earp.
Ever seen the 1933 movie I Covered The Waterfront, based on the Max Miller book of the same name? Well Miller wrote that book based on the characters he met while drinking at the Water Front tavern. How many chances do you ever get to drink at a place that is so famous that books have been written about it and movies have been made about it too?
