What state/town in America would be good for a young family to move to from austalia?
We are a young Australian family thinking of moving to USA for hubbys work, trying to research some places to live, I don't want to live on tornado prone towns or a big city. Also if anyone can give any info on how temporary visas work or where I can find out about them would be great.
Depends on how much money you want to spend. The cost of living in California, New York, Boston, etc. is incredibly high. Try looking at bestplaces.net which compares different cities. Also look at city-data.com.
I recently relocated to Houston in Texas from San Diego in Southern California. Before that London and before that Johannesburg (South Africa).
I like Houston! Good cost of living. Jobs. Need a car. Two months hot weather in the summer. International Airport and cruise terminal. Large international population.
As an Australian with a cousin living and working in the US, I would recommend Atlanta, Georgia (cousin is happy there), or somewhere up in New England. My cousin had to come home every couple of years originally due to his visa conditions until he got his Green Card. Hope this helps.
I suggest Florida, mainly anywhere near Orlando. Taxes are not high in Florida and for some reason shopping for food is not as expensive. I don't think tornado happens much in Florida though but hurricanes might be just as bad.
