How To Track Snipsly Article Views With Google Analytics Sign Up
Introduction
If you write for Snipsly, at least as of Oct 2010, you'll notice that Snipsly does not track your article views for you. At least not yet. According to Snipsly, they will be rolling out a feature that will allow you to track the amount of times your articles have been viewed.
In the meantime, you can use Google Analytics to track your article hits on Snipsly.
Step 1
Remember when you signed up for Snipsly? You went through all the contact info, user name, etc etc and then you entered your Google Adsense ID in the "My Advertising" section?
Well, you might also recall that just below the block you entered your Google Adsense ID, you had the option of entering your Google Analytics ID.
If you were like me, you may have skipped this part thinking you don't need it. Technically, you don't need it but article views to me are a huge indicator of my blogging success (or lack of or huge lack of :-)
Get your Analytics ID by first going to http://www.google.com/analytics. I was able to sign in using my Adsense user name and password.
Step 2
Once your are logged in, you'll be able to create an analytics account with all the typical info you need when signing up for just about anything. You will also need the website address of the site you are tracking.
Step 3
Google Analytics will assign you a number. It will look like this UA-xxxxxxxx-x.
Do You Use Snipsly and Do You Like it?
Step 4
Copy this number or write it down. Then go back to your Snipsly account
Step 5
Once back in Snipsly, navigate you you "My Advertising" section and enter that code, including the first two letters in the block just below you Adsense ID.
And that is it!
I hope that helps you to track your Snipsly article views with Google Anaylitics sign up.
As mentioned in my introduction, Snipsly indicated there will be article views in the future, but it still never hurts to have some extra Google tools in your blogging arsenal.
