A second pair of eyes is great, but not always possible. Edit your own Hubs with these tips.

Edit your Hubs like a Pro

Tips for a DIY HubPro-Style Makeover

So far, our HubPro program has been a pretty astounding success. On average, HubPro Edited Hubs have received a 20% (and still climbing) traffic increase compared with equivalent non-Edited Hubs. We hope to be able to offer HubPro to more Hubbers in the future, but until then, for Hubbers who aren't yet eligible, we recommend trying your own HubPro-style edits with these simple tips. Start with your highest traffic Hubs. Prioritize the oldest Hubs and the ones with the lowest HubScores. When looking your Hubs over, make sure they contain all of these elements:

  • Excellent grammar and spelling. Pay special attention to cases in your title and subtitles; this is one area where mistakes are common.
  • Current and correct information. Check the latest news, peer-reviewed journals, and other credible sources for new information on your subject.
  • Free of spammy elements (Hubs should contain no unrelated or tangentially related links, excessive products, etc).
  • High-quality, clear, attractive images (avoid pixelated images, blurry images, and images with watermarks).
  • Search-friendly and descriptive subtitles.
  • A relevant summary.
  • A mobile-optimized layout. Making all capsules full-width can make a big difference for mobile.

Pro Tips

With a little TLC your Hubs will look fabulous, dahling. (Samuel Koza via Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0)

Additional Content to Consider Adding

So you've looked over your Hub, checked it for all the important elements, and fixed any typos and outdated info you came across. Fantastic! I bet your Hub looks all shiny and new already. Time to call it quits? Not quite yet. Before finishing up with your Hub, we recommend considering whether or not it might benefit from some of these additional elements:

  • Data summary as a numbered or bulleted list, just like this one.
  • Additional beautiful, relevant photos (Creative Commons photos are a great place to start if you don’t have time to take your own).
  • A user opinion survey on the Hub’s topic using a  poll capsule.
  • Relevant, related video.

Remember, your readers want attractive, scannable, engaging content, and when included appropriately, these elements can make a big difference. Happy Hubbing!
