Introducing Snip Editing!

Editors Can Now Remove Problematic Elements Instead of Defeaturing Hubs

Happy Wednesday, friends! I have some big news today. Earlier this week we announced a new feature: Snip Editing.

What is Snip Editing? Snip Editing is a process that allows our Moderators to remove problematic elements (like excessive products or inappropriate links) from Hubs without changing content.

Why is HubPages introducing Snip Editing? We often see otherwise great Hubs that deserve to be Featured but can't be because of links, products, or other issues that go against our publishing standards. Rather than Defeature these Hubs, we wanted a way to remove specific problems rather than penalizing the whole Hub.

Will Snip Editing include anything else? Yes, Snip Editing also allows Moderators to fix glaring typos and misspellings in a Hub's title. However, the wording can not be changed by a Moderator and the title is the only part of the Hub a he/she will be able to apply spelling corrections to.

Can I put back elements that have been Snipped? Yes, but we strongly recommend against it. Replacing Snipped elements will likely result in your Hub being Defeatured and/or Moderated.

How will I know if my Hub has been Snipped? If your Hub has had elements Snipped or spelling corrections made to its title, you will receive an email notifying you and letting you see the before and after versions of your Hub.

Pro Tips

Your Quality Alerts will look like this.

Quality Alerts

We've also introduced a new Quality Alerts feature that will provide you with account-level feedback about potential problems in your Hubs. These alerts will show up on the Hub Stats page in your account. If your account has any of these alerts, we strongly recommend reviewing your Hubs with an eye toward improvement starting with the highest traffic Hubs first.

NOTE: In order to prevent the Hub Stats page from becoming too cluttered, the current month's income will no longer appear there. You can still see that information by visiting your Earnings Page.

If you have any questions or comments about these changes, please visit the announcement Forum post:
