Is working on online jobs risky for payment and regular work
I have come across many people who have bad experience in online jobs. Many times they don't payment. Also chances of repeat work from same client is very low. But many people have bad experiences in start only and gets smart to handle after that. With this drawback, is it worth to continue online jobs..
I have worked for almost a year writing online. I have never not been paid and most of my clients return for more writing. Nothing is an over-night sensation. Working online and for yourself takes time and discipline. Invest in yourself, use feed back from clients and continue to grow and polish your services.
I have been a full-time online freelancer for 4 1/2 years. I have only not been paid twice, and that was before I required escrow for everything. If you use escrow, the money is already in safekeeping for you. The only clients who pay me directly via Paypal are those who have demonstrated a perfect payment history for at least a year...which puts me at three who pay directly.
If repeat work is very low, the problem is either with your client selection or with the quality of your work. It will take a while to find those few who will have consistent work over long periods of time, but they are out there if you keep looking and keep honing your skills.
Whether or not you continue with online jobs will depend on your reasons for doing it in the first place. It is worth it to me because I make more, set my own hours, and can spend my days with my kids outside of the time I have blocked off for work. I can also pursue my own plans while I'm still bringing in money for the family. It does take very strong money management skills, and if you want stability then you will have to have an emergency savings account. Always assume that you will have to pay all of your bills before you get paid again -- at a minimum. It's very smart to assume that you won't get paid again until next quarter, and plan accordingly.
I employ many freelancers writers etc. The street is two-way,
The online work field is like anywhere else. The best thing you can do is be careful, ask for references and previous work. Also err on the side of caution
ESCROW!
I have only not been paid ones, I am working 4 years as an freelance SEO writer, translator and content writer ...
Only ones I have not been paid! And that's then merely because of someone who did not agree with my translation, not because of dishonesty ...
I think doing on-line work as a contractor is not more "tricky" then other contractor work ... You just need to research your "employer" and run some tests ... If they do not want you to use official invoices, they still might want to pay you, but be carefull - usually the work is not legal and often they "disapper with the water of the batthub" ... I just do some small tests for free ... do a first trial of 5 texts paid ... as soon as I have been paid, I take on extra work ...
The only thing I noted is that with on-line work, often employers are reluctant to sign contracts or quotes ... you do not have the security of a set amount of certain work, but on the other hand, if you want to get out (because of the fact that afterall the work seems not to be paying enough, or is too time consuming; or just simply because of the fact that you have a better opportunity) you gan also quickly get out ...
But ... if you are a trustworthy writer, you of course try to avoid this to the MAX, a word is a word - even if you did not put a signature against it ... Although perhaps risky, just because of this - on-line work can go fast and is flexible; if you start putting to many request, requirements and expectations, on-line work and content would become rigid and slow - - this is just MY opinion though ...- -
