Some time ago I published a hub titled Judge Hatch which I was told I could not do because it...
was previously published in a student magazine. I was told to make substantial changes.
The hub was made up of a portion of a longer story which I thought would be OK if I published it. However I had to break it up into more than one hub because it was too long.
Now one of the new hubs is getting fa message that it is duplicate. It seems that I did what thety wanted but it still does not work.
Any ideas on this?
It appears to happen a lot. I have made numerous orginal Hubs that I was told was a Duplicate. I figured out that if a particular subject has a certain number of hubs already written on that subject it is flagged (in the system) as duplicate.
I finally got tired of this occurrence and started writing on Squidoo. I simply take my current hub and duplicate the information onto Squidoo and then delete the hub. This way I am happy that what I wanted to write is out there and Hubpages is happy because they no longer have to deal with my supposedly duplicate hub! I earn money on my article no matter where I need to publish it!
Hope this helps!
One of my hubs is marked as a duplicate. I have no idea why. It's original material but it is historical data too.
Maybe somewhere there is something similar but I can't do anything to change history, the events, nor the dates. It is what it is. So I have just ignored the duplicate tag. Dates and events can't be changed and the hub is getting visits and rising in score.
I know I put the material together and it was a lot of work. I can live with that.
I'm no expert Dahoglund and this is just a thought... As you actually published the Hub in the past, could there not be some memory of this Hub somewhere deep in the Hubpages databank? Then when you've re-published one of the 'broke up' sections, either the Hub title or some of the content is noted as previously published and hence your messaged that it is a duplicate? Have you tried adjusting the title. Just thinking out loud! Hope you get it sorted...
are you giving credit for source? If you directly quote you need to do this. I have seen countless hubs where the writer is not giving credit for sources and they get flagged.
Also your hubs are supposed to be yours. Your thoughts, your ideas on those sources and their information, your response to those sources. and if you have additional information to add to those sources all the better.
Keywords do play a part in articles, as the other answer suggested. If a particular phrase is used too often it does get noticed, so you might just change your wording.
You probably know all of this, so I am just shooting off my mouth. But this is important for all writers to note.
I hope you work your way around it so we can continue to read your articles..
In this case there was no problem of somebody elses content. the problem was with material that I had used previously. However, the "duplicate" warniang is not longer there. I don't know why. However, I think thes tory was differnt enough to satisfy the requirement of being original.
dahoglund - Sometimes the "original" that you had posted and had asked to be deleted may not yet be deleted (up, down, and sideways). I have deleted some articles and have noticed that it may take a day, maybe more to rid them from the list. There may be a copy that is archived in case I change my mind. Of that I do not really know, but all things are possible. Once the first of them is gone, all should be OK.

So I just had an email saying one of my hubs was substandard due to duplicate content but to be honest it is content that I wrote totally off my own back and only have a couple of facts in there that are relevant. So the question is what would you advise? Should I just delete the hub and be done...

My most recent hub was flagged for duplicate content by an automated system. I have read my e-mail, the Learning Center, and the "help boxes". They all tell me, "This Hub seems to contain text that also appears on another page and may be unpublished as a result. If you revise the...
