Need A Different Template

Some of my hubs have the wrong template apparently; there are no ads displayed. To change it, do I have to save my hub, unpublish it, then start a new one and paste the saved work into it? I haven't found a way to change it otherwise.

Adsense ads are nothing to do with your template.

Have you split your text up over several capsules?  Ads will only display between capsules, not inside them - so if you've written all your text in one huge lump, you'll only get ads at the top and bottom of your Hub.

Did you tick "High" on your settings?

If you want eBay and Amazon capsules, you have to add them yourself.

Only one capsule but there are no ads at the top or bottom either. I thought maybe I needed to leave a photo capsule at the top right to have adsense put an ad in it.
Of course, that was yesterday, it may be different again now, I'd better check.

You really should split your text up over several capsules, it will enable you to improve your layouts and distribute photos better.

Darkside's Hub explains it very well:
      http://hubpages.com/hub/capsules

You're right, there are no ads on your "funny things kids say" Hub.  I can only suggest you double-check the settings on that Hub.  It's possible Google couldn't find any suitable ads, but in that case they usually just display something irrelevant.  They won't show ads at all if they feel the content is inappropriate (e.g. profanity, adult content) but I can't see how they'd come to that decision on this Hub - unless they have a problem with the word "potty".

Nope, not an ad in sight. This could explain my low earnings (well, one reason anyway.)

Do you have it marked as a commercial hub?

Yes, it's marked commercial, high, all that. Maybe no ads apply. I need to go look at each one now and see if the others still have ads.

Three have only one block graphic ad on the side, three have no ads, others have ads at the top and side but not the block ad, and two have them all. I'm clueless about how this works. I went through all my hubs and saw no correlation between which ones were properly checked and which were not!

I just went and looked at four of you hubs.  Three of them had full adds.  'Funny things kids say' had none.

Google may not be displaying the adds for you, for one reason or another.  I have one hub that I never see adds on, but I know that other people see adds on it -- I e-mailed it to several close friends and asked them.

Also, adds are regional.  People in different areas will see different things, and some of what they see is based on their previous use that day.

Thank you for looking Ivorwen. I don't know how most things online work, whenever I think I've got something figured out, I discover I really don't. Oh well.

Your welcome.  I know that when I do alot of editing at one time the adds really go downhill.

sometimes you will notice based on your connection speed and computer that the google ads dont display instantly and sometimes not at all. (on hubpages)

I use many different computers, configurations and OS in my daily operations and it is very common for me to not see ads on my own hubs...the ads are there, or more accurately are being loaded, they just dont display as quick as the rest of the hub during the load process.

I can say that I only notice this issue on hubpages, all of my self hosted pages and other pages I view as a user display advertising at load or at a imperceptible lag.

I do think their are some minor issues with hubpages adserving mechanisms...they are not perfect, and they seem to be constantly tweaked with the testing they do

so to shorten my long response, I bet you didnt see any ads on your pages! a couple of f5 refreshed would have corrected that for you...but how often do our readers see our hubs like that also?

sunforged, the strange thing is that I can see ads on all her other Hubs, just not on the funny kids Hub.  It doesn't change even if I refresh.  Did you check?

i just checked now, out of 4 refreshes ad appeared 3 times, but never were all the ad capsules full, every time the top block next to the first capsule was empty..and other times, a few other capsules didnt appear

never were the ads well targetted.

this means your article doesnt trigger many interested advertisers...go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

than click the radio button for website

        stick in your url

and read through the suggestions, see if you can naturally work some of those words into your text...if possible def put them in your headers (titles) 3 months ago, I did this with all my hubs, got a 200% increase in traffic and an almost 500% increase in earnings within that month

I went into my hubs this morning and changed a few, rearranged, added a photo on Funny Things, kept refreshing. Once a set of ads flashed on there then disappeared. The top keeps showing as a half column on the left, refresh and it goes to full width, refresh and it goes back. I really don't get it.

But you say there were ads on the others, that's good, sometimes I see them, sometimes I don't.
