I don't think there's a maximum number of pictures a hub can have. But the amount of prose should dominate the content of the hub.. the pictures should support the story of the hub rather than a hub which is more like a picture gallery.
If your hub is picture dominant it should be in the entertainment and media category other wise it will get flagged for wrong category selection as WE mentioned. Again, if you have hub with 30 pics but 600 word you can categorize it content wise.
There is a special category for photo galleries; placing them elsewhere is not allowed.

Will having too many comments posted on a hub be a cause for concern? Could too many comments make a hub less google worthy? I have one hub with over 200 and that seems excessive.
