Emerging Trends in Education
Introduction
Education is the best way of improving people, regions, nations and also promoting the sustainability of planet. The reason is education makes the human beings to be rational beings. It also teaches that, how to deal with resources to fulfill their demands. Traditionally, education was the part of greatest civilizations like Greek civilization, Mesopotamian civilization, Indus valley civilization, Babylonian civilization and others. The system of education of those days was entirely different with today’s educational system. At present education has commercialized and it promotes the competition of knowledge. The basic difference between ancient and modern education is in the learning methodology. Now, the learners are acquiring knowledge even without approaching any institution or teacher, instead learners are using e-resources and technology. In fact learning is the process of self improvement of individuals which ensures the optimum utilization of the resources of the economy. Now, higher education and research education are highly promoting by each country. Anyway, here this essay is focused on the modern educational system with special emphasis to analyze the emerging trends in education.
1- Internationalization of education
Presently, due to the influence of globalization, there are wide impacts on the internationalization of education. The scope of knowledge and its exchange has covered everywhere without national boundaries. Now more universities are functioning in different countries with numerous course opportunities. It is also promoting the new generational courses in different fields. In fact, knowledge sharing has expanded. Many countries are highly encouraging internationalization of education through making Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with different universities, NGOs and governments. Making of collaboration with foreign universities has become one of the best tools to analyze the trends in the quality of education. This activity also enabling the internationalization educational community to reduce the polarization in between education of developed countries and developing or underdeveloped economies. Many leading universities as well as specialized institutions of different countries are encouraging the presence of international students through offering international students’ scholarships. Such types of scholarships are more or less favorable to the students from non-developed economies. Further, the faculty movement across the globe is also enlarged. The presence of international faculty is taken into account while ranking the universities and institutes. In fact, int6ernationalsiation of educational system has totally changed the face of learning and encouraging the less developed countries to improve their quality of educational service.
2- Using of E-resources
The modern education is highly benefited from the technological innovations and developments. The best revolutionary example of using e-resources is the using of computers. It has reduced the complexity of learning as well as the processing of research works compared to the 19th century and earlier times. Now, e-libraries are the emerging trends in universities and colleges. The traditional method of learning is also changed since the introduction of e-books and e-notes. Further the teaching method has also simplified and more students are benefited from classes by using presentations via animations, videos, and audios. Another worthwhile mention here is about the modern practical labs. Benefiting from technologies, the application of theories and practical lab based learning has modified tremendously. But still these facilities are more or less favorable to the developed world. This is the main reason for the high quality of research output producing from the developed world. Anyway, the cooperation among countries and the exchanging of knowledge, students and faculties inspires the backward countries to reap more benefits from learning with the use of advanced technologies.
3- Internet and Education
The 21st century will be faster one with the influence of internet. It has changed the oldest ways of trading, self learning, teaching, exchanging of different kinds etc. The global educational system particularly higher education and research education has gained lot of things from the internet. The leading universities of the world like Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Oxford University, Cambridge University and many others are providing free online courses in different areas by sharing the faculty resources as well as study materials. The classes are delivering through internet via videos, audios and e-books. It also provides online class rooms to the learners and facilitates to interact with learners from different corners of the world.
The greatest influence of internet is on the research education. Today, internet is using as a big library to proceed research activities. It is empowering the knowledge revolution by destroying the barriers of learning or need of tuition fees etc. Nowadays, many ISSN journals are publishing through internet which enabling to spread the finding of research. The virtual world is capable of accommodating largest number of books, journals, magazines and other publications. In fact internet has opened a platform for the educational system top spread ideas by limiting barriers.
Do you think that the educational advancements benefited to all?
4- Inter-disciplinary Approach in Research Education
One of the emerging trends in research education is that, it promotes inter-disciplinary learning. The reason is, the ultimate aim of a research is to develop a system or a theory. The specialized learning has many limitations to reduce the complexity a reality since every problem or theories are based on multiple aspects. So, inter-disciplinary learning has more significance to produce an efficient research outcome. It is applicable everywhere even in social sciences. No social issues can be studied on the basis of a single aspect, but it would be more effective study when it considers various aspects like political, economical, social, environmental, psychological and even spiritual aspects. This is the reason for the changing of the nature of many research institutes. At present, many material science research institutes are introducing courses in humanities and social sciences.
5- Method of Evaluation of Educational Output
The existence of stiff competition among knowledge producing agents is now focusing on the quantitative aspects without neglecting the qualitative aspects. Evaluation includes students’ result and the status of the institution. The students’ evaluation method has become more based on practical outputs produced by the students rather than struggling with written examinations. Coming to the institutional evaluation, numerous factors are to be taken in to account like teacher-student ratio, research output, publications, international collaborations, presence of international faculties and students etc. In fact, the evaluation of an educational system has been changing in accordance with the changes of time.
Concluding Remarks
As time passes, educational system is also witnessing tremendous changes. The 21st century enjoys a better system of education. But still one of the remaining facts is the existence of the discriminating gap between haves and have not to acquire education, particularly in the field of higher education. The mutual understanding and collaborations among different countries is very urgent to bring a sustainable education for all.
