Depending where you go to school it can take 2-4 years or more. Than you have to pass state boards called NCLEX-RN. Than you have to find a job, and just to warn you, you're first nursing job may or may not be on the floor or field you really want. First time nurses can't be picky, experience as a whole is key when first starting out. Another tip, follow a maternity nurse at your local hospital. That will give you a good idea of what that specific nursing job entails. Also, some schools have a waiting list so the program may only be 2 years but you may have to wait a year or more and in the meantime take your gen eds. Nursing is a hard but wonderful career choice and the options for nurses are truly endless so if this is what you want, work hard in school and explore the field of nursing.
