Would you defend someone's  right to speak their mind even if you disagreed with them?

Do you support freedom of speach, as long as it does not incite violence or amount to obscenity

That is the essence of freedom of speech.  You defend the rights of those that you disagree with to speak their mind for the higher objective of maintaining a free and open dialogue in society as a whole.  I prefer and defend freedom of speech when compared to the alternative provided to us from other countries that supress freedom of speech.  Nobody wins when a heavy handed government suppresses free speech.  If anything it leads eventually to violence as people naturally want to express themselves.

Yes I would and yes I do!  Freedom of speech is one of the fundamental right that we all must fight for and fight to keep.  Just because one might disagree with another does not mean that person doesn't have the right to say it.

Yes, I do defend others rights to speak.  In the context of a small group, here is a good reason to let the ranter rant:  Someone who is supressed in what they have to say has a huge brick wall in front of them.  If you do not take the time to listen to what they have to say, you will never drill a hole in that wall big enough to hear what YOU have to say.  You can't change people's minds about anything, until you have validated the feelings they have about a subject.  Shut up and listen....

I absolutely would defend their right to speak their mind even if I disagreed with them.

Absolutely. And I love a good debate with someone who is civil.

There are some here at HubPages who troll the forums, inciting upset, but they don't contribute anything of value to the discussion. One such troll made it to one of my own Hubs and started out with a frontal attack. After the first several comments, I realized he wasn't discussing, but merely attacking. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then stopped and hid his entries as inflammatory.

Other skeptics have visited my hubs and I've enjoyed long and exciting discussions, though sometimes not entirely satisfying. Just when it gets interesting, they sometimes leave early.
