Is learning Spanish a good idea? Hard? Any good tips?

I needed one more credit hour to be full-time at college, so I went and got a four credit-hour class - Spanish I. Do you think that was a good idea or a bad idea? And since I probably won't change it now, what are some good tips for learning Spanish?

Yes, learning Spanish or any foreign language is a great idea.  It really does broaden your horizons.  Spanish is already the second language in this country, so learning it is not a bad idea.  It is an easy language to learn for the majority of people.  Tips?   Just relax and have fun with the language.  Don't give it another thought if you can't roll your "r's".  You can still have fun with the language.  At some point, try to visit a Spanish speaking country and see how fast you pick up on what you have learned in the classroom.

A simple way to pickup on on Spanish is to learn in a conversational manner by talking with people who speak Spanish fluently.  Ask the people who know Spanish, if they would give you a few minutes to help you learn, and try to carry on a conversation the best you can, without worrying if your saying it right or wrong.  Many will appreciate that your trying to learn, and feel happy that you are interested in their language.  A tip that can help you learn with them, is to ask about the immediate physical items that are around you.  Example, point to objects, tables, chair, computer, etc, and ask how to say it in Spanish.  Learn like a child, i.e. don't worry about all of the grammar or if your are doing it perfectly, just have fun, and enjoy the process.

Watch movies you already know and like, but put Spanish sound with subtitles in English. Later put subtitles in Spanish with Spanish dialogue. Then no subtitles with Spanish dialogue.

    Visit a Spanish speaking country.

Check out online resources to learn Spanish. There are many free ones. I wrote a hub here: http://secondlanguage.hubpages.com/hub/ … sons-Guide which gives some suggestions.

If you are really serious, get some language learning software as well. Rocket Stone is the cheapest and best value for money, but Fluenz and TellMeMore are very good as well. Rosetta Stone is overrated, in my view. You can read reviews here: http://ebestlanguagelearningsoftware.co … -software/

    Good luck. (Buena suerte.)
