   If man can invent a gun silencer why is the leaf blower so noisy?
   
   Those gardening gadgets are so noisy and the leaf blower has been listed in surveys as the single most annoying noise from the neighbor. Why hasn't a silencer for the leaf blower been invented yet?

   It would be quite simple to make a silencer for a leaf blower.  There would be one or two downsides, however - it would make the machine too heavy for easy handling; it would cost more than the rest of the leaf blower; and once your leaf blower had been silenced you would then notice how noisy your mower was!
   
   Seriously, making adequate sound deadening usually relies either on heavy materials or a near-absolute vacuum between the noise and the listener.  A gun silencer is small and not weight critical compared to the weight of the gun.  It also has to silence only a small range of sound frequencies.
   
   Having said all that, I think there is plenty of room for leaf manufacturers to reduce noise without totally eliminating it.

   It's funny how a device such as a leaf-blower is deemed time-saving. I imagine it's noisy, because an effective silencer would add weight? Since selling the hobby farm and living in town; I prefer to use mostly hand tools. Including a push-mower that is more than effective over a powered machine. My one indulgence, is a battery driven string trimmer. Despite my neighbour's huge maple tree, i find clean-up with a rake, to be, not a problem. As well as effective.
   
   Overall, the amount of noise in society since the 1960's is alarming! It comes from a myriad of sources and few people seemed concerned about the pollution. Living in a mountainous part of Canada, a person has to climb over the surrounding hills to escape it. Only to hear the thwack, thwack sound of a helicopter coming in to land.

   Here you are talking about endurance, you have to endure because the damage the sound of a gun would cause is the reason why silencer is being invented in it .leaf blow is like a hard time, and hard time doesn't last. So try to endure...

   Silencers do not silence a gun like they do in movies.  They may lower the decibels by 15 or so, but it's still louder than you yelling.  It just lowers the decibel level to a point where it doesn't damage your ears.

   the gun silencer is 'way easier to invent because it needs to muffle only a momentary (pulse of) sound....
   
   A leaf blower (or other noisy, engine-driven machine) is on for an extended time and produces its drone-noise for all that time.....
