Action Movie Reviews: Crank 2 High Voltage

Crank 2 High Voltage Movie Review

A cracking sequel to a cracking film, Crank 2 High Voltage picks up exactly were the first film left off as Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) plunged from a helicopter in the first film after beating up the bad guys who poisoned him with a Chinese super poison, he is quickly whisked away though after he survived, but the Chinese triads want his heart as they believe it has superhuman qualities after he beat off the poison in the first film after constantly having to keep his adrenaline pumping to keep alive.

This film isn't any different as the Chinese remove his heart and replace it with a mechanical heart that will need to be shocked with electricity every now and then to keep him alive and this is what keeps the film entertaining just like the original movie, but I reckon this was funnier.

There was one scene in the film where he is told by his doctor that if he rubs up against someone it will produce a static electricity charge that will keep his mechanical heart going and so he rubs up against an old granny and the granny don't want none of it!!! hahaha!

I'm seriously beginning to like Jason Stathams films now and Crank and Crank 2 are well worth watching if you like all that type of action style films were the bad guys still think it's cool to swear and the baddies also get shot to bits.

A quick mention though about the bad guys, they are quite comical really as the main bad guy in this movie looks like a Mexican porn star, which just makes him look daft and not that threatening, but aside from this minor quibble, there is lots to enjoy about this movie, the action, the comedy whilst the action takes place and in some places some quite trippy moments that are probably just their for arts sake.

Of course though the end of the movie suggest that there could be a third Crank movie, although Chev Chelios looked quite burnt at the end of this movie, as the last we see of him is in a end of credits flash sequence where he is being treated for burns with bandages on him and a last shot of him and his eyes again, just like at the end of the first film and he opens his eyes.....I can just see it now...Crank 3 - Burnt Avenger.

The film even has a small cameo from Corey Haim who is now no longer with us, but I only really remember him from The Lost Boys and a couple of other films.

I do very much recommend this movie as it equals the first film for it's ingenuity with action, although in a third film it may get old if they decide to go down the route of having to be on the move all the time to keep his heart going, but I guess there could be room for a 3rd movie as the first 2 were such fun.
