What would be helpful in a radio program about healing from childhood abuse?
List topics, interviews with specific experts, and other resources that would help you/those you know to thrive after surviving childhood trauma. What has helped you heal? Speakers, authors, books, websites, and other links are all welcome!
Thank you!
relationships, self esteem and forgiveness are three big topics to focus on
Get people who have gone through the experience to share their experience and give practical advice. The message would be stronger.
I quite agree with Lady_E.. But let me just quickly add..
You could make the theme of the program..

Hi Misa,
Joyce Meyer has an amazing testimony. I listen to her all the time on every subject. I am inspired that if she could go through what she went through, and then go on to do all that she has done, and to be happy and fulfilled, then so can I. I have read so many books, but I think the ones that had the greatest impact on me were Changes That Heal, by Dr. Henry Cloud and The Wounded Heart, by Dan B. Allender. Changes That Heal is not a book specifically about sexual abuse, but it helped me to understand how my development was interrupted throughout my life. A book called Invisible Heroes by Belleruth Naparsteck is great for survivors and has many guided imageries to help someone go back and reclaim those lost parts.
I have also found some breathing techniques borrowed from Yoga and other Eastern practices are helpful for releasing pain. I am working on some guided imageries especially for Christians because I am a Christian and most of the teachings of these proven techniques are imbedded in religious and spiritual ideas that counter Christianity.
I listen to a radio show on the Internet and it has a chat room going on at the same time so people can ask questions and offer and receive support from one another. So that's another idea.
I personally believe that most adult survivors are not sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and ruminating over "what happened." On the contrary, they believe they have gotten over it and have moved on. Yet, they are having difficulties in life, in relationships, addictions, self esteem, eating disorders, and other self-destructive behaviors and don't even realize that their unhealed past is the root cause of their present difficulties. So just helping survivors and non-survivors to understand the dynamics of abuse and the effects of abuse would be so helpful.
Other related issues would be help for the spouses or partners of survivors, confronting the perpetrator, and telling a non-offending family member.
I could go on and on! Let me know if you would like to hear more! I also have attended a wonderful healing group with Judith Mathews, MFT in Reno Nevada. She would be a great person to interview on radio. She has a lovely voice, is passionate and committed, and helps survivors unconditionally accept themselves and where they are on the path.
