Do you think children should be forced to play musical instruments?

Some parents think it's good for the child, but some disagree. What do you think?

No, I do not think a child should be forced to do anything they do not have any interest in. They need to choose their own. This will give them a feeling of independence.

Yes I agree! I am only 19 and I don't have children. I've heard many debate this. Some think it will help their children in the future. Something about learning abilities and so on.

I think the child should have some desire to do the activity. Otherwise it just looks like the parent living vicariously through the child. Also it will be a fight to get them to pratice if they are being forced.

I think every opportunity should be offered a child to pursue different things they are interested in.  To force a child to learn to play a musical instrument is not healthy and will back fire.

I think if a child wants to learn to play an instrument and the parent is financially able, they should help the child in any way they can....but because children tend to quit things, I would make a deal with the child that they keep at it for 6 months and if they still want to quit, then I would let them retire the instrument and lessons.

Although having the knowledge of musical instrument is an advantage to kids, it is not right to force them to do something that they don't like. For example, he may like drums but you prefer piano. Let yr kids to decide which musical instrument he wants to learn. If he doesn't, forget about it. He may learn to have interest when he sees his friends learning it later on.
