    Is it harmful to a toddler to listen heavy metal music on a daily basis?

    A friend of mine is or was into punk rock and heavy metal in his teen years. He now has 2 sons and the younger one is obsessed with not only listening to, but blasting it as loud as we will allow. By the way he is only 3 years old and loves Tool, Hoobastank, Korn, Old Metallica, Deaf Leopard...

    I wouldn't say it's harmful, unless the child is listening to it at levels so loud they are likely to develop hearing problems. It's nice to hear of a child that age who isn't already obsessed with Justin Bieber...

    Think about the messages that are spoken in this type of "music".   Think about whether the words and melody are pleasant to the ears or not.  Think about this as food- what kind of diet is this child on?  Are they old enough to know whether it is a good diet or a bad diet?  A daily dose of this type of "music" would not be healthy.  Scientifically, there are many studies which show the effects of negative words and frequencies on the brain and body.  Check out The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto as an example.
