   How long did you breastfeed your child?
   
   I'm working on an article about breastfeeding across the globe. Since Hubpages has an eclectic mixture of cultures, I'm wanting to see how long some breastfeed and if it is reflective of their culture.

   The longest I breastfed was 10 months, due to a lack in supply.

      You do what you can do.  Whether your baby ever knows or not is irrelevant - you have already made a difference in your child.

   The length of time that I nursed my children is not at all indicative of my culture.  It is, instead, a reflection of my personal belief that not only is mother's milk best for the child but the closeness/intimacy of the repetitive action is extremely important to the foundation of a child's psyche.  That being said, the shortest period of that I nursed any of my children is 15 months.  With subsequent children, it has been more like two years each.

      I completely agree with you. Culture alone is not indicative of length of nursing time, that is merely one of the aspects I will be exploring in my article. I, too, nursed my children because breast is best. Thanks for your comment.

      Yes, the culture of both my and my husband's families does not support breastfeeding, but I believe in the benefits and kept going....about 4 years with my daughter (only child).

   I live in America and come from a typical American background. I breast fed my children up to two years because I believe breast milk is very good for children.

   I'm in Canada and still breastfeeding my 2.5 year old. Hoping to be done around the time she's 3.

      Or when she decides she's done.  Although at this age, they tend to PREFER to continue, as opposed to babies who are less opinionated.  (Opinionated toddlers?  Nah!)

      And yes, I'm trying to give her gentle nudges. She was down to one feed a day for a long time until she got sick and now she's asking more often. But I know she's not really dependent on it anymore, and I've felt done for a while.

   The longest I did was just over two years. I have three and they were all different. Probably the least would be just over a year.

   Out of my 3, 1 year was the longest because she decided she was done. I am in USA. I miss those days!
